Don, I've had good results getting rid of the DOD and VVT also, it basically is a LS3 at that point. I will be testing the first camshaft tomorrow actually, so we'll see what happens. PtoV is tight on the intake side, exhaust is generous due to the valve reliefs.
I'll probably have to do a writeup on degreeing the VVT camshafts, it is a little tricky and even then - there is a +/- 1.5 degree error range due to the floating design of the phaser system, it does lock at "0" when there is no oil pressure, but there is still a lot of slop. I built a L99 timing gear test setup so that I can advance/retard the camshaft to check PtoV at both extremes, and to check the full advance ICL and full retard ICL.
