Default Anniversary Camaro on the 5th gen cars?

Since there was a lapse in production for the Camaro, how will GM do the anniversary?

When the new run of Camaros hits the 10 year mark are they going to call it the 10th anniversary?

Your ASSuming that they will even make the Camaro, and that it'll be worth owning.

GM confirmed production last month. Old news. The coupe will be out in '09 as a 2010 model and the convertable will come out one year later.

Welcome to last month....

ehh... whatever.

Honestly the new Camaro didnt really impress me that much. So unless its a great performer and is really cheap I could give a sh*t less about it.

Plus at the rate I'm modding my car I'll be broke and or dead long befor 2009

I'm just curious about what GM will call the anniversary model when it hits another milestone.

Hmm that's a good question, I could see them calling the 2012 model a 45th.

Yeah I know, but there was a big break in production.... it's not technically a 45th because production stopped for 7-8 years.

They may have to call it something like the "Heritage Edition" or something other than "Anniversary."

They actually haven't confirmed it for sure yet, although it is very likely.

Autoweek released this today from lutz:

100,000 Camaros a Year
Lutz says GM must reach sales goal if concept is built

By JAMIE LAREAU | AUTOMOTIVE NEWS

AutoWeek | Published 05/15/06, 2:59 am et

DETROIT -- Product chief Robert Lutz thinks General Motors can sell more than 100,000 units of the Chevrolet Camaro -- and says that's the number required for GM to build a production version of the concept unveiled at the Detroit auto show.

GM is doing "intense work" on engineering for a production version and analyzing the business case, Lutz, GM's vice chairman and global vice president of product development, said in an interview with Automotive News.

He added: "Is it an approved program? No."

In January, Lutz said he expected a decision on building the sporty coupe within six months. GM executives have strongly hinted they will build the Camaro.

Lutz says GM wouldn't consider building the car unless it could sell more than 100,000 a year. He says the Camaro, a car he describes as "a little bit off to the side" of mainstream segments, would draw new customers and promote GM's product quality.

The Camaro would be aimed at the Ford Mustang, which sold 160,975 units in the United States last year. In the peak years of muscle-car coupes, the Camaro sold 200,000-plus units.

The Camaro would be part of GM's coming lineup of midpriced to premium-priced cars on a new rear-drive architecture developed by Holden. North American production of those vehicles is expected in 2008 or 2009.

The 50th Anniversary vette was in 2003, even though they missed a year of production (actually, 43 were produced in '83, though none of them were sold). While the Camaro has missed many more years, and though your point is valid, an anniversary is typically focused on the origin, not the entire life span (though the etymology of the word would imply actual number of production years). I imagine they'll use anniversary dates based on '67.

It's still the anniversary of the first year, even if production stopped.

They shouldn't even bother with an anniversary edition unless they are going to do something special like a bigger motor. Maybe give us the LS7 for the 45th anniversary.

GM hasn't confirmed production yet, that article in GMHTP was complete nonsense.

Although I'd be willing to bet 10 years worth of paychecks that they'll build it.

Anniversary dates remain the same, unfortunately we're gonna miss the 40th Anniversary (2007).

True, but if the car comes out in '09 as speculated. I could see Chevy making some kind of special edition to commerate the 40th anniversary of the '69 Indy Pace Car. So many another white with orange stripped Camaro maybe available the first year of production, if it happens.

That would be cool, but I'd like to see a reverse color scheme. Hugger Orange with white stripes and white leather.:dool:

Us fans could make a stripe and mod kit as a 40th Anniversary edition for 98-02s.

It would have to fit on all base coupes. We could call it the F40th Anniversary Edition.
~!!!!!!!!!!!!~~~~~~~~~!!!!!!!!!!~~~~~~~`

Let's see,,, gas prices go up about $.50 a year because the Bush administration is being funded by it and they will pass a law saying that the oil companies can sell it at whatever prices they want even if it is unfair to consumers. DOD will only work well on those who want to save money while having a V6(or bigger). Might as well drop all this gas suff and put in an electric motor.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yeah, they probably will call it a 45th. And it will probably be the last year for it again(see above paragraph).
ROFL
I still won't hold my breath for a company whos plans involving losing a billion dollars.
Unless the goverment steps in and I doubt they will gm is on thin ice. I mean they offer junk bonds now!
I think they will probbly have some selling point few years into it, much like said before no vettes were sold in 83.
Only time will tell.
