A blurb on Globeandmail.com points to September 2009 for the new Camaro's planned production at Oshawa, Ont.:
Wow, 2009... that's a long time away. I know GM has said that this was a 2010 vehicle, I just figured they'd speed things to market. Guess I should plan to get a car between now and then.
The launch of the vehicles will be staggered, industry sources said, with the next generation of the Chevrolet Impala first out of the chute in June, 2009, with expected annual sales of 165,000 cars.
Next comes Camaro in September, 2009, with annual sales projected at 100,000 a year, including a convertible version of the muscle car, which was a smash hit at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January. The Camaro was built in a now-closed GM plant in Ste-Thérèse, Que., until the company discontinued that model and the Pontiac Firebird in 2001.

By 2009 all the excited people will no longer care; some part of me hopes GM isn't really this stupid. GM's engineers are top notch, but it seems their management hasn't a ******* clue.

Well I think I will still be excited about it 2009. I can't wait. I already plan to buy one. Hopefully there will be a SS version the first year out. I do wish it would be sooner, but I will just have to wait.

if GM isnt carefull, the're going to let the mopar guys get the better of them when the new challenger comes out. i was at a chrysler dealership last sunday and asked when it was due. and he said late this year, or early next year. if GM waits for 2009, im afraid that the retro craze will be out of date, and too many people will have bought challengers with hemi's to care about it. and if all that happens, GM will discontinue the camaro again because of poor sales just like the SSR, or the GTO (even thought he GTO will be coming out with the camaro in a new body refit.) GM needs another Harley Earl, or lee iacocca, or even john dalorian to get things done, and to make GM, "GM" again.

That is just too long a wait. A lot of guys are gonna jump ship and go with Ford or Chrysler. G.M. has to act. A lot of people are not going to wait that long.
Someone needs to go to G.M. and say "Get your asses in gear and build the f#$@ing thing!" "People want this car!"

I'm confused. I thought this car was suposed to be built in Australia. What happened to that? If anything it's a good thing that it will be built closer to home, but I thought that the domestic automakers were trying to move production away from Canada. Any info. about the change and what happened?

one of the reasons that chevy stoped making the camaro was because the plant in canada was getting old, and they wanted to move it to the states. thier going to fuse the gto and the camaro production under one roof. so i've heard...

GM is making some smart moves right now in the Impala/Malibu, and sorta with several other areas. It took a long time to get to the brink of disaster. They just need time to fix it. 2008 isn't that far away given what they're trying to do with the whole company--and the uncertainty of Delphi.
