funny thing.. i was talking to a co-worker about the new camaro a few months ago, she was a camaro fan, had a 1997 "30th aniv" V6 stripper camaro (lol i know). she told me "i dont think the new camaro's should come with a v8, i heard the older ones caught on fire because of where the gas tank was located"

and if that's not good enough, she thought a corvette had a v-12, and that big *** diesel trucks like F-350's must have at least a v-16!!! ROFLMAO!!!!

i then proceeded to explain to her the basic operation of an engine and that solely the number of cylinders doesnt mean x amount of power, but more air in and out is more power. to non-car enthusiasts, styling, price, and gas mileage are way more important than power or in some cases the number of cylinders LOL!

a DOD V6, does that even exist? well i think this is a bunch of horse ****. first the SS badge will always be the top model for every car except the vette. second i dont think we will see a suppercharger, the only engine that GM has ever strapped a supercharger on are the 4cyl and the v6's i cant remember a production car that came with one. and if theres gona be a limmited production car i want to see it as the ZL-1, it is the big daddy of all the camaros ever created. not the Z28, the Z28 is for the masses.

the DOD v6 doesnt exist NOW but it will in a few years

and i would really like to see more correlation between the vette and the camaro, meaning the Z28 being the top dog will be a great selling point for the car.

GM's with a s/c that i know of off the top of my head are:
Cobalt SS
Monte SS & Impala SS (model before the new one w/ LS4 Fwd v8)
Pontiac GTP
and i'm sure a few others..

edit: i almost forgot, chevy is putting DOD technology on all of their cars now.

Prices are all too high....GM will kill themselfs if the prices are that high. Some may be able to afford it....but I dont think its a good deal. Alot of people bought the GTO's at sticker, only to watch them go for 5K under sticker a few months later...GM priced it too high..and paid.

I could afford the prices, but I dont see the value. Most of the 4th gen F bods were over 30K new.....what happened to them ?? They did not sell.

Everyone has to remember that GM MUST market this car to the masses, not us gearheads. We are only a small segment of the market. I said it before and I will say it again...If the V8 is not 25K out the door (base model) its dead.

I think for a base model v8 out the door, 30k sounds about right. With the base LS1 4th gen v8's, you could get a Formula or a Z28 out the door for about 25k and they were the base model v8's. I think with this being 10 years later (1998 when the base 4th gen LS1's came out compared to 2009 when the 5th gens come out), 30k out the door for a base model is about right. Times are changing and the style of living will continue to go up, as will car prices.

Base price for a 2002 Camaro z28 stripper model was something like $22,500 when I was looking at them. There were 3 z28s at that price somewhere in Sacramento and I almost bought one. I'm glad I didn't, I would have gone crazy having manual windows. They are a must for me only because it's my daily driver.

So the closer to the 4th gen base v8 price GM is, the better we are at. Ideally, I think we would like to see maybe $24K base price, but I think it'll be more like $28K. If Monte Carlos are selling at that, I think the latter will be where the base price is at. I wouldn't mind paying $32K for a nice looking Camaro with 400HP.

I agree that this information is most likely not accurate. Some if it may be close or accurate, but this is definitley not how it will be when everything is final. They probably won't know the exact production costs until the car is being produced, and although I'm a Z28 owner and always have been, I doubt it will be the top model considering the SS in modern times is supposed to be at the top and currently is the top model in other Chevrolet Platforms. I would love to see a limited edtion ZL1 badged Camaro with an LS7 for 40-50k. But I don't think we'll see 500 HP or Forced Induction in Z28 or SS models considering pricing although it would be a nice option. It would also be cool to have an LS7 for an option just like the old days when you could get anything from a 327 to a 454. But once again, engine choices mean money... and GM needs to sell the car before they will get too crazy with it.

i think if they keep pricing right at the mustang pricing, it will sell very well. i'm not too worried, since Lutz claims the prices will be in direct competition with the mustang.

I hope the SS is still goin to be the top dogg. It should be it has so much history and if any car can bring respect back to the SS name its the Camaro.

1982 Z28 base price: $9,700.00

1993 Z28 base price: $16,779

The price from first year 3rd to 4th gens almost doubled. First year LS1, 1998, was 27K. Of course the SS's went for 32K. If the 5th gen is 40K then I wouldn't be suprised.

The V6 must cost 19k and the base V8 must not be more than 25k.
