an 8.1L diesel Camaro would be badass. However that's about as likely as a jet-powered camaro.

regardless of smell or performance... the price of diesel has steadily risen and the restrictions on diesel motors are ever rising because its a dirtier burning fuel. Note the new "cleaner" burning diesel slowlyl going into effect.

gasoline is a much better option!

I'll take one! I drive 120 miles per day, My daily driver is a VW TDI with a Upsolute chip and injectors. It makes roughly 120HP and 240 lb/ft of torque. The car has 171,000 miles on it and I will make just over 50 mpg on this tank. The range is well over 700 miles per tank. 240 lb/ft of torque at 1700 rpm is suprisingly entertaining to drive. Most people are shocked how fast it will go from 60-90 mph.

I still drive my Z-28 M6 whenever I can, but I would love to have a diesel option on a Camaro. The newest generation of Common Rail Diesels kiss aZZ. GM has a great reputation with the Duramax diesel, they need to take the lead in bringing diesels back to passengers cars in this country.

Give me a 300 HP diesel with a 6 speed!!

Diesels are for trucks, trains, boats, and heavy equipment. Diesels in cars suck ***, i work on vws here at work all the time. Diesels are heavy, expensive to maintain, and the price of fuel is way higher than gas. Plus the big price you pay on top of the purchase price of the car, and they stink like *** to boot.

Yes I do, they are also on a special blend of very expensive fuel also. BTW with enuff money anything can be fast and nobody puts the kind of money into the ALMS cars like AUDI!

How many Vette owners would have that tacky wing on their car either? Maros are a different breed of car owner...Camaro does not equal Vette. Who is going to buy a V6 Vette for that matter?

I've seen a couple with worse wings than mine... I got it because it was different... At least i didn't just bolt a metal wing to the stock spoiler... Yeah we are a different breed, but both f-bodies i own have corvette motors... And there was a 6 cylinder vette... remember? But anyways a V6 camaro is for the mass consumer, not the enthusist like us... Sorry for my bad analogy, but there is no diesel camaro in my future...

It'd be cool to see it as an option, if it makes power... Diesels are capable of insane torque and power. Look up some of the stuff Gale Banks does with them. Besides, who wouldn't like to say that they're running 35 pounds of boost on pump fuel?

When yall talk about Diesels in cars ur talkin about the sub 2 liter engines that are pretty pathetic for a diesel. If u eve dove a new Duramax when a exhaust adn a ship and nothign else u would think different. A guy i work with has one with a extended cab and utility boxes and it still feels real fast. Like low 15's fast.
They weight almost exatly 2x as much as a LS1, at 900 lbs, but when u consider that u could drop a bomb on it and not do any damage its not that bad. I know cornering would suffer but it sure would be alot of fun having 1k rwtq at 2krpm's lol. GL

ahahahhaaha...with dual 5in. chrome stacks and air brakes. instead of handing over the ss to SLP, GMs gonna send them to cummins.

cons...
terrible sound...terrible smell...weight.
pros...
reliability...milage...easy to mod.

its a tough decision but think about it. if you swap out the turbo and intercooler then chip it youll have stupid amounts of torque at the wheels. i dont think id be complaining about the smell and sound if i had 800 pounds of torque at my disposal.

fast is fast The dmax trucks get into the 12's pretty easy and they weigh like 6500+ lbs and still get almost 20 mpg. Now cut the weight in half. A low 10 sec car that will get 35-45 mpg. Yea they dont sound like a hot gas engine and the smell, but its worth in imo. Besides, its going to be the people behind you that smell that funky smell.
Oh and just think....a camaro with smoke stacks lol

actually, I wouldn't mind if it weren't a V8... A diesel I5 or I6 is PLENTY capible of making mucho power, with some weight savings.
