Mustang and Challenger Really competition?

From information that I am hearing, the first year challenger will not have an available 6-speed manual. This alone could hinder alot of the hardcore fanbase. We already know that paddleshifters do no make up for the lack of a clutch.
Mustang GT sales are still high, but so far the GT500 is a struggling due to dealership markups. If the dealerships do smarten up and bring the price to MSRP, then I fully expect the sales to pick up, but not for any-one but hard core ford fans. It sufferes from the GTO Syndrom, high price, IRS, and a fat ***.
I believe the REAL threat to the new Camaro/GTO is the Mustang GT. Low prices, great market place, and alot already out on the streets, it will be difficult for GM to make up that ground.
Unfortunatly it looks like GM is forcing IRS on us, but lets hope they allow provisions for a Solid rear end w/o major work. Lets say, for use desperate for the Solid Rear, do what ford did with the GT500 and SVT Cobra, stock mounting locations.
We'll see where this goes, but I think the Challenger isn't going to live up to its hype, by not offering a 6-speed in its debut could lead to serious sales problems.
Discuss.

I've heard Challenger being offered with only 1 or 2 V8s, and only a manual transmission.
Would make sense given their sales targets, 20-30K per year.
I guess we'll find out soon enough.
Challenger isn't really competition for Camaro, but rather GTO.
GTO also has similar sales targets of 20-30K per year.
GTO and Challenger are the larger, more expensive muscle/touring coupes.
Mustang and Camaro are the smaller sportier/ponycar coupes.

I believe the the competition between the cars will help sales for all of them. Getting the blood boiling between the 3 mfg's will be like the 60's all over again. Tighten the harness down and hold on! It will be great seeing all three at the track!
Make mine a Camaro. I'll put the wife in the Challenger.

I agree... This will make the market for competitive muscle cars very interesting.
I heard the reason the Challenger was stuck with the auto is because Chrystler group does NOT have a 6-speed manual for their RWD application, and the challenger would be the first.
Also the challenger, according to rumors will offer a v6, which immediatly puts it in the same class as a Mustang, Camaro.
