Hi
I just read on GM Hightech about the upcoming Pontiac G8 GT1 with a 6.0L L76 V-8 developing 362 horsepower at 5700 and 391 foot-pounds at 4400 (supposedly on regular fuel!).
Does anyone think this will be the V8 in the new camaro?
Thanks JA

i believe they're supposed to be bumping the power on the base vette up to 450 in 08, so i'd imagine they'll probably put the 400hp ls2, if not a more powerful version.

The LS2 will be obsolete by then, but a 400 HP more powerfull version of the L76 would be great.
I am thinking on buying one in 2009, but have decided that if I were to buy a new car, it would have to be good enough that I would not be tempted to do any mods. I just don't see the point in buying a 30K plus car under a 5 year guarantee and then repacing a bunch of stuff. 400 HP, M6 and somthing similar to a 1LE/Koni suspension upgrade. If I have to buy an upgraded model like an SS then I will hold off till a later year

What's this LS3 I keep hearing about? Anyway, a 362hp L76 RS and a 400hp "LS3" SS would be cool with me. I don't really care what they do with the Z28 because I won't be able to afford it anyway.

From LS3Vette.com:
LS3 is the car version of the L92 that is going into the Escalades right now. 6.2L, variable valve timing thanks to a cam phaser, LS7-style heads
LS9 is basically the same motor but with an intercooled supercharger. 650hp
LS8 is still just rumored, but its going to be a detuned LS9 last time I heard.

The L76 would be the perfect motor for the Camaro IMO. If they tune it to run on regular fuel, it will sit better with those who would buy it not intending to mod it and still concerned with saving money on gas wherever possible. Plus there is a significant number of people who have LT1's and LS1's who are running on 87 octane as gas prices have gone up. With the engine tuned for 87, there wouldn't be any issues of decreased performance, clogging up the cats, and lower mileage from the PCM going into self-protection mode.
And obviously those of us who would do a few things off the bat, we all know that a simple dyno tune for 93 octane, CAI, and exhaust would wake it up significantly.

Hi
For me so much depends on the price. If they can bring a base Z28 out that is priced near the Mustang GT with 362 HP I think people will buy it. But the expectations are higher for an SS or top end version. I think the LS2 set the benchmark at 400HP. If they don't bring out a option that is 400 HP or higher, most will be disapointed.
