CHEVY HIGH PERFORMANCE talks 5th gen engine combos There sources reveal that there will be two V6 options and a few v8's one is a LS3 engine with L92 cylinder heads which will be installed in the z28 and make 400-450 hp, and there is also talk about a supercharged 550 hp Z28 with a Roots-style blower. Well thought I would share and wanted to know what people think, I guess I'm not really familiar with the LS3 engine so I will have to do some research

The C6 Corvette, which debuted in the 2005 model year with the 6.0L LS2 engine (400 horsepower), is scheduled to get an upgrade, possibly in the 2008 model year, to the new 6.2L LS3 engine.

The LS3 is based off the L92 truck motor that debuted in the 2006 Cadillac Escalade and Chevrolet Tahoe. The LS3's cylinder heads are very similar to the 7.0L LS7 heads found on the 505 horsepower Z06 Corvette, except they are designed for smaller cylinder bores. In addition to the heads, the LS3 included a cam phaser, which allows variable valve timing to maximize horsepower while not sacrificing low end torque or economy.
It is unclear at this time if the LS3 will receive Active Fuel Management, the cylinder deactivation technology that is used in the L92 to inrease higway fuel economy 10%. Many enthusiasts are concerned the Corvette will sound like a four-cylinder when AFM is engaged.

God, let's hope not.The base model vette will be 430 hp when the Camaro comes out. 550 horses would romp all over it even if it was 800 pounds heavier. Anyways, I wouldn't count the 550hp option out yet. It would probably be more expensive than the Corvette. This would not be the first time the Camaro had higher horsepower options than the base Corvettes. This is the comeback of the Camaro and they want to start off with a bang. Don't expect mass production of a forced induction version but don't be surprised to see it either.

I hope it does have more power than a vette, i mean the shelby cobra has as much power as their ford GT right? So whats the big deal, the vette is an all around car, for turns aspecially I would think it's geared towards, the camaro should have the biggest powerplant that's what it's geared towards, pure muscle, straight line power. Just mho.

i can see a detuned corvette ss motor in the top dog camaro that msrp's about the same as a base base vette. say 575hp compared to the top vette's 600-650. would be nice. i thought there was only going to be a series 3 3800 v6 making around 250hp. im probly going to lease the bigger v6 or the smaller v8 to dd and keep the 2002 ls1 and see what a ysi could do.
