Default Hybrid or DOD Camaro..............

My wife and I are trying to go as green as possible in an effort to help save our planet. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a tree hugger (evidenced by my 500+ RWHP Supercharged Corvette), but just trying to save some fuel (but not too much).

Would any of you even look at an LS2 powered Hybrid Camaro or an LS2/L92 setup with the DOD (displacement on demand)? Just asking, and I put on a double layeered flame suit, so fire away!

A turbo diesel electric hybrid with solar cells on the roof, trunk, and hood would be best. CVT would also be helpful on it. It would get a 100 MPG and would not need that annoying brake system on the Prius. I could give two ***** less about the environment...but 850 million a day on foreign oil is a huge waste (imagine all of those jobs and that money in our economy). And, considering we are running out of it (when you add 3 billion ppl that all want cars, we are running out) I would like to save as much of it as possible till we wean outselves off of oil.

ditto. There are two reasons I don't want a Hybrid.

1. I don't want to have to replace the battery...ever.
2. Hybrid drivetrains complicate matters exponentially. Just look under the car and start crying...

You could always buy one and convert it to E85.

I like DOD. It's the same scenario as bio-degradable toilet paper... as long as its there when I need it, I'm good.

If I'm not mistaken, the recent V8 Impalas are a 327 303hp DOD that get 28mpg with an auto. Us M6 guys could see 30 on that. I don't know what kind of significance there could be with a highly modified engine, but as long as the whole DOD system doesn't weight more than 10 pounds, I have no complaints. Is it actually possible to install one from an Impala on our LS1's?

DoD and FlexFuel are both great, and in fact welcomed on the 5th Gen IMO.

Several years ago GM said their new vehicle would have trick items no other manufacturer had. Their thinking was everyone would want to be the first or second on their block with a new item. Having a new car isn't important.

I think DOD as well as being able to run on E-85 is a given for most new models from GM.

Am I the only person concerned about where this car is built? It is Canada, right?

Not with E85. Ethanol has to be used in greater quantities because it stores less energy. BUTTTT it is clean as hell when burned and costs way less to produce. I personally love the ****.

You will see no where near 30 MPG with E85.

E85 - renewable - clean - cheaper - and from what I have read, makes good power. We can live with the lower millage.

Ethanol has alot of disadvantages, but in the mean time it's a so-so alternative.
Some of the new biofuels will be better, such as biobutanol.

doesnt the IRL cars run on E-85? I know those cars make some serious power.

OctaneZ, or anybody, what are some of the other dis-advantages to running e85 other than the mentioned lesser fuel economy, availability

I've thought from the start that there should be a flexfuel DOD Camaro. Even with ethenol I could see better millage that we got with the 4th gen LS1s with DOD and more power too.
btw ethenol is 105 octane. I think one disatvantage to flexfuel is that the car has to be able to run on 85octane regular gas and ethenol. If they could optimize the car for E85 ethenol and not both I think we could see some major improvements.
btw E85 stands for 85% ethenol and 15% gasoline. I know some people think the 85 in E85 means 85 octane but its just the pecentage of ethenol. For example E10 is 10% ethenol and 90% gasoline.
E100 is 100% ethenol but not sold at pumps because that it is drinkable in its pure form.

I think the cost of hybrids is too much. We have yet to see the long term mant. of the hybrids. I love the idea but its just too much. I think they can be powerful cars because of the low end torque they have, but still.....
Also I would think Camaro would be one of the last cars for a hybrid because of the buyers they are after.
