Default engine options!

i was just at the autoshow in my city and i asked the guy where the camaro was. obviously it was busy in another city, but i asked if he knew what the engine options were.

he hinted, basically the same as the G8, and he kept talking.

he said a V6 obviously, then a 35X hp 6.0, 420 hp 6.2, and a monster engine for a ZL1 with 650 hp, of which they are apparently only making 3 and all 3 are spoken for.

im thinking RS, Z28, and SS respectively

oh, and its gonna be hitting the streets at the end of this year or january next year

by the way the new challenger is amazing as well. im probably gonna end up buying both cars

They have actually been toying around with the turbo 4 cylinder instead of the HFV6

Honestly 420hp for the SS will be dissapointing. With the weight it will come in at it needs to be closer to the 450 mark.

That's still a 95hp upgrade from the ls1 SS back in '02.

well, the 6.2l is the LS3...forgot DOW!

anyway, I knew it all along, base model: v6/Z28 :6.0liter 358hp(G8engine)/SS:LS3 430hp.

at least the LS3 is a crazy engine to mod and I cant wait to see the price of that.I'll guess 30K$ for Z28 and 35K$ for SS. In Canada, its gonna be 1million$ for the Z28 and 1 billion$ for the SS...

What he told you is believable, except for the 3 ZL1's. Why 3? I'll wait for an official press release before I believe anything.

I am really thinking the price tag is going to be alot closer to the challenger and that is without the dealer markups on the ss model. Be ready to pay 40-45grand for an SS. If GM does not go at that price range they will lose there backsides on the the car. Watch and tell me Im wrong when it happens not much longer to wait.

well, the first 3 options are very beliveable. the 350hp version will compete with the new 5.0 mustang comming soon and the 420-430hp version will take on the SRT challenger. i'd expect them to be priced very similar if these are the engine choices as well.

I have heard a different rumor that there will be 3 v8 models to choose from

1 will be a base model v8
2 will be a optioned out SS
3 the Z28 will be a limted edition model based on the way they did them back in the 1st gens. It will not have as many options but will be setup more for performance.

that is just rumors though..I dunno how true that is..

I'm really hoping they don't **** up with the pricing. I'm pretty set for a Corvette, here, but if the Camaro comes close, for less money, I'll be picking it up. Another thing I'm worried about is whether or not there will be a BASE V8., ala the RS, along with a standard V6. I don't want to be forced to buy a higher level V8 aka Z28\SS simply because there's no standard..

Edit to above post: Hahahahaha... Unless you're inside the Camaro design\performance department.. what do you think your email is going to do? It's going to be spam-filtered and sent an auto response.

I would not put much stock in what the tool at the auto show says. He most likely is not in the "in" for info on the 5th gen. He was just pulling numbers out of his *** to sound important.

This is about how I think exactly...

If the price for a very-high powered V6/base V8 isn't correct for my budget, you can count my *** out.

The SS's and Firehawks in 02 were almost 35 for a loaded one. Be ready to pay closer to 40 for a SS or whatever they decide to call the topdog.........

I'm pretty sure Chevrolet already knows about power to weight ratio. But feedback is never a bad thing.

I don't understand why they wouldn't just strap an ls6 in it for the V-8 Model, and the Supercharged Ls9 like the ZR1 will have for the SS version. As far as anything less than the V-8 model WHY, if that is necessary then just put a supercharged v-6 like the 04 Impalas and Monte Carlo SS had.
