I am sure they will offer a body in white.

Wish they would, but I doubt they will. This is 2008, not the late 60s / early 70s. How many manufacturers actually offer true stripper packages? (!A/C, !traction control etc.) They don't have one for the Corvette, so I doubt they will offer something for the Camaro. Again, I would buy one in a heartbeat, but i really doubt its going to happen.

Default 1le

I was on Camaro5 and trying to get some interest going in a 1LE package. Not a body in white, but a no-frills option code that you could licence on the street. I was shot down BADLY by about 95% of the people that replied.. Al Noe from TFS came on board with me though.

Most people were like "no, I want my car loaded with every conceivable option" and "GM can't build a car with AC and Radio delete without loosing money" ...I'm thinking "dumbasses! I said an option code for ME-not a freaking ala-carte thing at a dealership". It wouldn't affect the masses at all. It's like no one remembers the 1LE on that board or are even previous Camaro owners.

GM can take what the've learned from the SS development and give the 1LE the parts they deem to harsh for the mainstream. Just leave out some of the fluff and the racers among us will take on the Ford's FR roadrace packages.

Dude, I think a 1le would be bad ***, I dont see why so many people would shoot it down. I think it would be cool even to have a couple options, say one completely stripped, and then one with basics, power windows/locks, a/c (no dual zone crap), and a cheap cd player.

In this day and age making a car with and without power windows is retarded. It doesn't save any worthwhile weight and probably wouldnt be cheaper in the end having to make both a power and non power version. There are certain things you just have to have on a car. I can do without most of the extras though. Dont need a dual climate, heated seats, nav'ed up car of a Camaro.

I would like to see a stripper model also. The lighter the better.

Youl're more hard core than 90% of the guys in my other thread. Most people can get a Z28's or SS's...no big deal, but not for me. The 1LE is special. Win on Sunday and sell on Monday still applies and there is an army of racers that can win 1000 little battles (Drag race, road race, streetrace, autocross) every weekend for GM. That sells the generic cars during the week. Charge me more for it, I don't care. Think Ford FR, Viper ACR, Z06, or any of the lightweight European specials. It's not uncommon for Manufacturers to support racing. Mazda has done to support their racers and my wifes WRX came with a free SCCA years membership.

I ran my '67 RS all year around...in fact, the day it was stolen was the Dec. 26. 2000 here in Ohio. Snow on the ground, a defroster that barely worked, etc.etc. Most people thought "how could he drive that car around?" The answer is easy: I drove what EVERYONE drove back in the 50's and 60's... cars often had no power brakes, no power steering, roll up windows, and suicidal drums. We're spoiled with gimicks and the performance and mileage suffers because of it. That little stuff adds up in weight. I'm not saying make the car unsafe, but there are all sorts of things that can be done with Wheels, Brakes, Gearing, Fuel sumps, Oiling sytems, etc...that can be homologated as "legal" when the cars came from the factory with it....rather than being illegal when the racer does it at home. If 1LE doesn't happen, I'll have to go looking for the B4C Cop car option code

I agree with you.
It's funny how EVERYONE (me included) is bitching and moaning about this thing's MASS.
Yet they ALL want it to be light despite it being over-optioned/loaded to the gills!!
Hell, why don't we just put an extra 200+ lbs. of I.C.E. in it to bring it up to a nice even 4K (or more ) lbs.??!! Then we can pimp like proper Gs, yo!

A non street legal 'body in white' would be cool for the road racers.
And a FULL delete/stripper, street legal 1LE (like the 3rd gens were) with Konis, springs, swaybars, upgraded bushings would be great for the rest of us 'hardcores'.

But sadly, as others have stated, GM is in NO position to offer this stuff.
They need to sell the car with as much profit built in as possible to even justify it's development/existence.

Maybe they will be in that position by the 3-4 yr of production..... I'd hold out for one. I've taken the A/C, sound deadening, heat shielding, EGR, AIR, spare, jack and other lil **** like outta my car, don't bother me one bit. But EVERYONE else seems to think i'm nuts.

If nothing else do a 1LE as a standard model with only performance options, big brakes, Higher rate springs, Big sway bars, largest wheel and tire combination......on and on. Keep the up grade A/C, radio, and heated leather seats for the panzies (just kidding), if it is cheaper to build the car with power windows and A/C fine just don't make us take stuff in packages we don't want like nav and sunroof, GM I can read a map and I'll open a window thank you.
