Default 6th Gen Camaro Debut: 05/16/15 in Detroit

At one point it was speculated to be revealed in Indianapolis for the Indy 500, but now GM has officially confirmed the new Camaro will be revealed on May 16th at Belle Isle Park in Detroit, home of the Belle Isle Grand Prix.

The event is free to attend, but capacity is limited. I read that preference will be given (and special parking assigned) to anyone who will be showing up in a Camaro (any gen).

Jalopnik article is here.
Link for the RSVP and event information is here.

From the RSVP Link:
WHERE:
Belle Isle, Detroit, Michigan
Home of the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix

WHO IS INVITED:
All Camaro fans and owners. Be ready to rub elbows with special guests plus Camaro engineers and designers.

The event is free, but spots are limited and registration is required. Priority will be given to owners who choose to drive and display their Camaro at the event.

WHAT:
A once-in-a-lifetime, high-octane weekend to welcome the sixth-generation Camaro, offering six reasons why you won’t want to miss it:
Camaro Heritage Museum
Stroll through five generations of Camaro legends under one roof.

Camaro Corral
Network with Camaro owners from across the country and scope out their rides.

Camaro Hot Laps
Ride shotgun around the Belle Isle Grand Prix course with professional drivers who will push the award-winning 2015 Camaro Z/28 and ZL1 to the max.

Ride & Drive with the Full-Chevrolet Lineup
Climb behind the wheel to test drive the full suite of Chevrolet vehicles.

Meet and Greet Camaro Engineers and Designers
Shake the hands and probe the minds of the Camaro visionaries.

The Unveiling of Camaro Six
Be among the first to see the all-new, 2016 Chevrolet Camaro.

Kind of strange that no one has responded. The weight issue is what turned me off on the 5th gen. Hopefully there really is a significant weight reduction. Really liked the 1LE and the Z28 (except the price, just didn't get that)

Bill, I agree with you 100%. I've always hated the fact that the current Camaro is so heavy. Yeah, I know that Chevy has done an amazing job making them handle like they are much lighter cars but they're still heavy.

My 2nd gen 1980 Z28 is a porker but my 2002 WS6 is much lighter. I'm looking forward to the (hopefully much lighter!) 6th gen Camaro. I might even consider one for my first new car since my WS6.

I hope they fundamentally changed the body style. I really liked the design of the Gen II and Gen IV Camaro, these are the body styles that I have owned. The Gen V, well for the $$$$$ I decided to buy a Corvette instead and 70,000 for the Z28????? these guys need to put that pipe down lol.

My humble, two cent opinion says that the car is going to look pretty similar to the current 5th gen cars. I'm just basing that off of the limited spy shot pictures that I've seen.

I don't mind the way the current 5th gens look, its just the weight issue that bothers me. Just think, the same or more power and hopefully a lot less weight. Awesome!

I never pay too much mind to these "leaked" photos after the catastrophe with the chevy Volt. The Volt they used in all the previews looked like a small camaro of type and then when they released it, well it looked like a a honda civic, toyota, NOTHING like what they were driving around. I was really interested in the Volt because of the looks even though you could not drive it very far without a charge but when I saw the real car..........never gave it a 2nd look. I'm hoping it's kinda the same with the new camaro Gen VI, I'm hoping for lower and wider and completely different and if not then it will be just another GM car I'm not interested in.

I hear you. I don't get too wrapped around the axle with spy photos either. I guess the real car will debut in May so we don't have too much longer to wait and see what the newest Camaros will look like.

I need another car like I need a hole in the head but this one has me a little excited. I hope the looks aren't a letdown. Oh, and the weight better be way down!

Hopefully after the official debut, well start getting a lot more info and photos leaked. I'm really wanting to see what the interior will look like, even if all they show is a base v6 model interior

I'm sure we'll see a lot of stuff after this weekend. The interior is my big "must see" item, since we already know about the go-fast bits. It should come with an 8-speed, but those things seem to be so constrained at this point... We'll see soon enough.

I'll be looking to buy in about 3 years.

That roof line looks awesome. I was just talking to my friend the other day about how much the fastback roof line on the new Mustangs has really grown on me. The Camaro looks a bit similiar.

I'm most interested in seeing what the front end looks like. The spy pictures make it look almost exactly same as the current gen, which would be a disappointment.

I would say you will most certainly be disappointed then. The grill has been shown, headlights have been leaked, etc. There isn't much surprise left for the front of the 6th gen. The biggest difference will be when it's parked beside a 5th gen and the proportional changes are really noticeable.
