The last time i checked, KBB never asks what color your car is.... SOM is a more desireable, since less of them were made. As long as the the person who does the paint does a good job (no runs, sills and jams, under hood blah blah blah) you shoundnt decrease your value. You certainly wont go up, and you'll never get that money back out of it in a sale.

None of the vehicles I have owned have their original color, or paint job rather. I think my Camaro was originally black, but not a black paintjob. When I had my Mustang, it was white, but the first time I washed it a sheet of paind fell off the door and it was hunter green.

not sure if a fresh paint job ever hurt the value of a car. i guess if you made it ***** pink it would drop quite a bit, but not the color your talking about.

its a newer car that's not a special edition or anything, it really doesn't matter, the color you paint it will determine if it affects value

nobody will be lining up to buy a brown, tan, pea green, ect car...

the RPO codes show what the original color was, if it doesn't match, most places wont give you as much for it. however, selling to INDIVIDUALS who WANT the new color, wont care and might give you more

^^ yeah.. better pick a color everyone likes, but that the car didn't come in. example: electron blue looks pretty good on trans ams. if you care about that sort of thing, maybe you could start a poll in the appearance section.

It absolutely will decrease the value of the car. I take it by you even asking the question that you plan on selling the car some day. I agree that SOM is the **** and an awesome color, however, the person buying the car (even if they too love the color) will use every reason that they can to knock $$ off the price and repainting is an easy one.

who cares if it decreases the value. If you bought a f-body for an investment then you already lost money. If thats the color you want it to be, then paint it. They do make white paint, so it can always go back to white.

The only way I can see it decreasing the value is if you do some hackjob without paying attention to the door jambs and under the hood. It might not affect the dollar value of the car, but would turn off a lot of potential buyers.

An in and out job, however, is a completely different story. Good paint is an awesome selling point.

SOM would probably raise the value if anything.

Just remember that if its not taken all the way down to the body and the original paint has only the clear sanded off then every time it chips, and it will (unless you don't drive it), there will always be a white spot.
