Default Question about 4.8L trucks

Anybody know anything about these motors? Like what the designation is for them lsx or what? I think it's like 295hp and like 310lb ft tq. I have a buddy who has one that says that the entire top end off of an ls1 would fit it. Anybody know where I might be able to tell him to find some parts?

they 4.8 is a good engine i have it in my '00 Silverado i'm pretty sure the parts will interchange but the chambers are slightly bigger then the stock 4.8 heads. they are stout engines. i have a standard cab, stepside 5 speed and it will walk away from most of the 5.3 trucks because it weighs so much less the the Ext. cabs. It tows well too and gets decent mileage. I got 14mpg towing a 26' hydraulic trailer and '07 Grand Prix off the back. I am pretty sure all the Gen 3/4 engines have most parts that are interchangable...

If by entire top end he means the valve covers, he's right.

It's part of the Vortec series so it's basically a small displacement, iron block LSx motor, but there are almost no parts that interchange directly. I'm sure you could use the heads if you wanted a smaller chamber and tiny valves.

It's too small IMHO, the 5.3 is perfect as a general pourpose truck engine.

Thanx for the info guys. It's his truck, I just wanted to learn more about it for my own personal information. The truck runs well, and he has a k&n and a flowmaster and a tune, and it feels decent, but he thinks it is faster than it really is. He wants to race me from a 35 roll at some point. I might just do it to show him but it's all good cuz he's got a 2002 750 gsx-r that would murder my f-bod.

my wife has a 06 durango with the 4.7 V8 and for as heavy as the truck is it moves pretty well. i have towed a broken 5.0 foxbody home on a flatbed trailer for about 300 miles and it did way better then expected. i think the displacement limits them though for any big performance.

Don't the 4.8 trucks come with 243 heads? At least I drove one that had 243 heads on it and I'm pretty sure it was stock b/c it was a rental. And those heads are obviously interchangeable...
