Why do LS1's use different mounts and bellhousing patterns?

Why do LS1's use different mounts and bellhousing patterns?

I've searched for the answer but never found out the reason. I just don't understand why GM changed the engine mounts and bellhousing pattern for the gen III + engines. anyone know the reason?

gen3 blocks have different mounting points and bellhousing pattern because the gen3 blocks are totally different in block design over the gen1/2 blocks
