Default Is this a Ws6?

I bought a trans am 2001 supposably ws6 a month or so ago. I am trying to determine if this is a real ws6 or not. The Rpo codes on the door read Ws6 and Ws9. Can someone shed some light on this and help explain what I have goin on here? Thanks!

If it reads WS6 it is a WS6, WS9 is a different code.

Incorrect

WS9 is the Formula conversion code and does not mean the car is or ever was a Formula.
It means the vehicle is a V8 equipped Firebird and therefore all Formula's and Trans Am's will have this RPO.
W66 is the Formula RPO
Y82 is the Trans Am RPO

WS9 + W66 = Formula
WS9 + Y82 = Trans Am

this is confusing. I thought that the Z28 and SS thing was enough with the Camaros. Whats the difference between a Formula, Trans AM, and a WS6.

I thought the WS6 was like the Bird version of the SS, if thats true what does a formula have?

I`m pretty sure it goes Firebird< Formula< Trans Am< WS6. Firebird being base model and the rest being different types of trims. I`m sure someone will correct me if i`m wrong though.

Yup ^. The frmula is a stripped down v8 version of the firebird. Opting for the ta gave you the high rise hatch bumper and ground effects and a few plush interior options. The ws6 version of the trans am adds the ram air hood and the suspension upgrades just as the ss does on the camaro.

Don't forget that the WS6 option was also available on Formula's from `96-`00

Some of the rarest Firebirds are WS6 equipped Formula's

+1 on LS1W66's evaluation. Craig is all over it. WS6 has historically been a performance package available on Formulas and Trans Ams. It is primarily a handling package. The WS6 package has been around for many years, but it is not the same set of performance items for every year. Even in the 4 gens the equipment associated with WS6 is different in the early years versus the 00 01 and 02 model years.

Well, I wouldn't refer to the Formula as a 'stripped down' car.

The easiest way I find to explain the models is as a progression of added options.

A Firebird is the base model V-6. A Formula is a Firebird with a V-8.
A Trans Am has a different body package with up-level wing, different nose and rear end etc. And the WS-6 is an additional package to the Trans AM.

I know there are finer points to the explanation, I just find this the easiest way to explain it when someone asks me.
