My friend has a 2000 pontiac trans am with an automatic transmission. Just yesterday he blew the A4 transmission. He found a tremec t-56 from an older fire bird for sell (from a 1996 formula). Ok well my question is if that transmission will fit and work with the ls1 engine?? Your help is greatly appreciated!

find another a4 from ls1 and go

Search the archives. Its been asked many times.

He will have to swap the bell housing, transmission front plate, input shaft, get a slave cylinder and plumbing. thats just to switch between LT1 & LS1 T56.

For switching A4->T56 you will also need a pedal set, and have to reprogam/replace the computer.

 

Not worth it. he would have to buy it and then have it rebuilt swaping out several pieces that can't be changesd without tearing it down. H could locate a LS1 style T56 for half what he is going to have in that one.
