Default Indecision (perf.lvl2 or local rebuild and paint)

im at a bit of a crossroads.

Well my tranny never was perfect when i got my swap done. And it finally completely lost 3rd and 4th gears. Its my DD and i need it for school but want to invest in a built that's not going to break 4 months down the road.

I got $3k to spend on this.

Here are the options im considering:
Get a Lvl. 2 performabuilt tranny with a 3500 stall. $2440 + 250 for install

!OR!

local rebuild $750
paint and rear quarter panel repair $2000 (i got friends)

so my buddy said to me "man nothing is unbreakable(referring to the lvl 2),do what you want to make driving you car more enjoyable"

I dont know what the hell i should do!
Get a near unbreakable tranny or get my current one rebuilt locally and hope it holds up,and get the car painted.

Here's another option for you. Pick up a used 4L80E from the junkyard, classifieds, etc for $500-600. Buy the crossmember, misc parts for the swap and a convertor and you could still be cheaper than the built 4l60e.

Out of your two options, I would prob get the built tranny, then worry about the paint and body. Doesn't matter how good it looks if you can't drive it.

If you are going to use the car for regular driving with a little fun here and there. Go with option 2.
But if you are thinking about modding it and beat the crap out of it. Then go with option 1. Do it right the first time.
