Well where I live there's no way I could get a WS9 hood (or whatever it's called after market) AND get it painted for 600

I like WS6s, but would I buy a base mode if it were a good deal? For sure I would. The difference in price between a used WS6 and a used base model should be negligible, with any real differences being rooted to availability. The WS6 hood is good for about 50-60 rwhp when going over 20mph~!

Sure glad I got a new hood for my car then. Wow I can't believe this thread has made it to page two.

You know, when I first saw this vehicle a few months ago I thought, wow who uglied up a fourth? But now that I'm seeing it from the eyes of one who has been "Bumble bee'd" with the new Camaro looks, I'm seeing it in a whole new light. You ever look at a new model and say to yourself "was the designer blind"? But then, as your mind accepts the possibility of the body shape and lines, you actually begin to like it? Well that's sort of how I feel about this ride. I can see it black with some "dulled down" gold accents and maybe a few tastefully and strategically placed screaming chickens. Did I just use the words "tasteful" and "screaming chicken" in the same sentence? Kick me in the nuts now before I start thinking of growing a mullet I actually like this car though, kudos to it's maker!

It was built in a joint exercise commerating the end of the Trans Am by GM and the UAW. There is more info as well as a link to my photobucket album on the car in this thread: https://ls1tech.com/forums/pontiac-f...-am-sd421.html

Yeah it was. We all know that the ws6 hood is capable of freeing up 80 rwhp or MORE in stock applications. My Firehawk hood is good for 100 or so as long as it's windy that day. Lol. Even a category five wouldn't be enough wind to yield even 10rwhp I dare say. To keep it realistic I think the hood with ram air could net 5-10rwhp in HIGH speed conditions on a cool day. I mean even that is a hard one to imagine and even tougher to prove since dynos are stationary. I will say this though; I have read in few places (yes a magazine warrior I am lol) that the T/As often seemed to out pull the Z28s in top speed by a VERY small margin. Perhaps that is the result we are seeing from our beloved "ram-air" cars? Could also be the more aerodynamic front ends (eyelids closed on a T/A seem streamlined) on the Pontiacs. Or could be that the guy testing the Z28 was afraid to have to roll a turd outta his pant leg after getting out of the car, and backed off the throttle before hitting top speed? Either way though dude, YES I was joking!

Not true, some models had different v8's. I know the mecham package cars could get a few different engines other than the standard ls1, like a 383 and a 396.

also, not 100% sure but i thought some of the blackbirds came with bigger motors as well.

Came with or were swapped after factory and before resale?

About 15% of 01 and 25% of 02 f-bodys came with LS6 blocks but they still had 241 heads so are considered LS1's. An LS1 block has the same power potential as the LS6 as they are the same bore/stroke. The true LS6 has the better 243 heads and bigger cam which accounts for the better power.

Well I think that's the problem, too much reading! Lol. Depends where you read from. There's a lot of misinformation out there and I think the answer given by SOMbitch a couple posts up is correct. See, even after a topic is beat to the ground it can still be dug back up during excavation for research and archeological purposes
