Zeta works...but the GTO's and Monaro's etc are not Zeta Platform cars...I think they are Holdon's V-Platform.

How does "too late" sound? That's what I call it anyways. We could have used this car a few years ago.

because the F platform died in 2002.
it went from 1967 to 2002 and was dedicated only to camaros and firebirds.

the 2010 camaro is on the Zeta platform which has been used since 2006 for other cars.

GM is still using the F in the vin number, though. a 95 nissan pathfinder with a 4banger also has an F as the 4th number in the vin. so does any convertible toyota. so if you want to get techical and call the 2010 camaro an f-body, you also have to keep in mind that under the same logic, a 95 nissan pathfinder, toyota solara and a toyota mr2 are all f-bodies also.

how bout G5 for generation 5? Its short and sweet and directly linked to exactly what this car is, the 5th generation camaro. Z body doesnt work unless you want all those cars with the same name.

Just really reminds me of the Pontiac G5 pursuit. Not really a comparison I would make personally. Nothing against the G5 but let's give the New SS more credit.

Sorry Genius try again!

The "F" code in the 4th digit is a designation of a GM F-body. Going by the decryption of the VIN, here's how it breaks down.

(and this is most of my personal VIN, so you LS1 guys will be slightly different)
1st - Country - 2 Canada
2nd - Manufacturer G - General Motors
3rd - Make 1 - Chevrolet
4th - Carline Code F - F-Body
5th - Series P - Camaro (All Models)
6th - Body Type 2 - 2-Door Hatchback Coupe
7th - Restraint Syst. 2 - Manual seatbelts (Driver & Passenger Inflatable)
8th - Engine K - L36 3.8-Liter V6 231-cid Engine
9th - Check Digit - Your VIN's Check Digit: 2 Computed Check Digit: 2
10th - Year 1 - 2001
11th - Factory 2 - Ste. Therese, Quebec, Canada
12th - 17th Seq. Prod #

So therefore, the 4th digit is the body style under the specific make defined by the 3rd digit, made under that specific manufacturer. So yes, you can call at Nissan Pathfinder an F-Body, but it's an F-Body under Nissan's criteria. A GM F-Body is the Camaro and Firebird, end of story. Argue all you want, the VIN tells the story on all of GM's vehicles. So keep you're nicknames, it's still just a 5th Gen F-Body.
