Default Reading VIN#s

Hi, is there a guide for reading the VIN#s on our F-bodies? ie what code/letter in the VIN indicates original paint code, or that it's a Formula not TransAm. I came across it like 3 years ago, but don't have the link anymore and I'm trying to show a dealer that the car he's selling is WAAAAAY overpriced cuz he's pushing it as a TransAm, but it's really a formula, also it's been repainted a different color.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Vin won't tell color I don't believe. Check the RPO codes and that will tell you the orig. color.

Like said above the Vin will not tell you paint color nor does it differentiate between Formula or Trans Am.
You need to look at the RPO sticker inside the drivers door

WS9 indicates it's a true V8 Firebird
W66 is the Formula RPO
Y82 is the Trans Am RPO

The paint code is also located on this sticker.
