Default where's the apropriate place to put a cutout at?

so I want to get a cutout but unsure of the placement. do u put them right off the headers or put one off the back of the y pipe just b4 the resonator? (I don't have cats.) I once heard It might burn out ur o2 if u put it right after the headers.

Most do one in the I . You can do two in the y though.

In my opionion the farther away from the heat of the headers you can get it the longer it will last if its a electronic one.

I have mine on the I-pipe.
Got it from the WS6store for like 40 bucks.

Can't beat that.
It's never closed.

I thought u would want it to come right after the headers so u would have optimum performance not way at the back of the exhaust.

In the bend just before the muffler, after the axle. Similar to the "adjustable" Borla systems.

Pros IMHO:
-Pipe is at a downward angle already
-Gas has a straight path out
-Noise level in a street driven app. is much more bearable
-Easy reach, if your is like mine and manually opened and closed
-No ground clearance issues
-No hot floor board
-No interior full of fumes

Cons:
-Possibly could be worth a fraction in power vs. cutout closer to the engine

it sounds pointless putting it there...especially if you have a LM system or no muffler...by putting it that far back you are loosing almost all of the benefits...

If he has a stock muffler then it will help. Thats the same place that I have mine. Mine gained 4rwhp after letting the car cool. Not a huge gain but for 35$ its not bad. He would gain more from it being closer but he will sacrifice ground clearance and depends on how loud he wants it.

Excellent point. However, If you have a LM system or no muffler, why a cutout How much is there to be gained from a cutout in a pipe only scenario?

Thank you BOOSTEDNISMO. A close friend has his in this location, with headers, no cats and corsa muffler. He picked +12rwhp on the dyno open vs. closed.
-On the noise issue, from the outside both locations are very loud. The only difference IMHO is the rear cutout isn't right under you.

thats a good question...I've asked it a few times and never really got any useful responses...if someone is running LTs with a LM system, is there anything to gain from a cutout? i wouldnt assume a whole lot would change in the sound or performance departments....but i do not know for sure...

I have headers, no cats, & LM2 I just wanted cuttouts somewhere right after the headers so the gasses can get out quick for a few more HP. it will also be a lot different sound than that crappy LM exhaust I have now. I'm thinking of going with a magnamouth or flowmouth nxt.

Ok didn't read that. But it still depends on how low your car is and how loud you want it to be. Friend has his on the I pipe before the axle like in the pic above and it scrapes on speed bumps. The closer it is to the engine and passenger compartment the louder it will be. I like the way I have mine because its not too loud inside and I have easy access.
And yeah I know I need some tips.

I don't care how loud it is that's the whole point to having cut outs isn't it. I have about 1-1 1/2 drop up front. I'm more woried about burning the o2s out I guess. I've ran open headers & haven't had a prob with the o2's b4.
