Title Question
Title Question I inherited my grandpa's old truck. It's a 2001 Silverado, he'd wrecked it and it was totaled by the insurance citing frame damage. However, upon inspection the frame is good just the brackets attaching to the frame were messed up.
When we went to transfer the title, we took the original title up to the tag agency, with the documentation from the insurance saying that it had been totaled. They had absolutely no idea how to title a salvaged vehicle, it didn't even appear as totaled in the computer. After about 45 min of calls and waiting, arguing with the people that we wanted to register it as salvage, we left got lunch went to another tag agency and proceeded to register it. A few weeks later, I got the clean title in my name, no history of the lean or being wrecked.
My question is, can I get in any trouble for not having it as salvaged? I mean i'm not going to sell it, I'm fixing it up and if I ever fully insure it I'd hate to have an issue down the line. Even when I went to insure the truck it gave me the option to full insure it, which you arn't suppose to do on a car with a salvaged title. I think his insurance messed up and didn't properly report it that it was salvage. Like I said we argued with the tag agency that the truck needed to be salvage title. It's insured right now, just as liability.
