if you beat the crap out of your car or at any time feel the need to drive it hard, you need 93....driving it hard and running 87 will kill your car.

So the LSX engines will run on 89 and 87 octane, blah blah blah. I just don't get why someone would buy a "high performance" car and then decide to go cheap with it. If you can't pay to play then it's time to get a bus pass, I say...

Burning regular when the owner's manual specifies premium won't void the warranty, nor damage the engine, even the most finicky automakers say. "You're giving up perhaps just a little bit of performance that a customer wouldn't really even notice, it's so slight," says Furey.

Automakers say they don't test premium engines on regular to check the difference, but some auto engineers estimate that power declines roughly 5%.

5% on a 300hp motor is 15hp, I run premium to get the most out of my car but most LS1's run perfectly fine on regular, you are just leaving some power on the table.
that is very true i feel like im at a 15hp loss when i run 87 and not to mention the detonation it causes make me sick from my stomach simply put dont use 87

Has anyone actually READ their owner's manual?

See these portions of the 1998 Camaro manual:

"If you have the 5.7L engine (VIN Code G), use premium unleaded gasoline rated at 91 octane or higher for best performance. You may use middle grade or regular unleaded gasolines, but your vehicle may not accelerate as well."

"Be sure the posted octane for premium is at least 91 (at least 89 for middle grade and 87 for regular)."

And for those who can't imagine why anyone could possibly live with a little decreased performance and think people that do so should sell their car, we all see your fluffed-up feathers and are not impressed.

Is it possible to put in a 104 octane boost and mix with 87 octane to get a 91 mix? Or will constantly using octane booster like this fry the 02s?

Wouldn't that cost more than just filling up with 91?

Aren't those octane boosters good for like 10 points? and 10 pts=1 whole octane reading.
