Default Speedo Question

I reciently bought a 98 Z28 from and individual who stated the car had 3.42 gears. The code on the door says the car had a 2.73.

It's an Automatic car and I can run about 70-73 mph at approx 2000 rpm. My question does a 2.73 sound right given the speed and rpm or do you guys think it has more gear. Oh yea stock size tire too.

I'm about to send it off to get it programed again cause when I got it back the info I gave the tuner was apparently wrong cause now it says I'm going about 55 mph at 2000 rpm anything faster that that and I'm passing people like its going out of style.

Did the individual say he changed the gears out? Because I know none of the a4's came with 3.42s stock.

http://www.f-body.org/gears/

sounds like you've got something between a 2.73 and a 3.23
how are you confirming the speed?

I have a 3.23 gear in my car, A4 245/50/16's and @ 70mph im turning 2150 RPMS My sixer has 2.73 and that mph sounds close to my sixer but the sixer @ 70 is more like 1900-1950 @70

((EDIT)) after reviewing f-body.org/gears.... then I have to say, that's probably exactly right. I guess my sixer is a lower rpm then I orginally stated above.

He said it has an axle out of an SS in it. But the code on the door says 2.73. Did SS's come with 3.23's? According to the chart a 3.23 is close to what it was doing before. He's also said some other stuff it did have on ce I got into it and started looking around. So I wouldn't be surprised by anything at this point.

Ok, at 70 mph my car is turning 2100 rpm exactly. 17" wheels and tires, stall, and the computer knows all the parameters, including the new rear end ratio. Hope that helps
