Climate Control on 4th gen F-Body?

Default Climate Control on 4th gen F-Body?

I always wondered why GM didnt supply the latest and greatest F-Body models with climate control but instead a cheezy hot or cold temperature adjustment module. I mean yea its a sports car but if its supposed to be top of the line...

Is it possible to put climate control in these cars? Im trying to think of a GM vehicle with a single din, single climate control unit. I wouldnt think it would be that hard to convert. Convert the wires and run the temp sensor under the dash...Any info?

I am damn glad they gave us the basic vacuum controlled **** setup. I'm the type that likes to keep it simple though, so this was perfect for me. Less electronics = less problems as the cars age. Electronic modules fail over time, and being solid state there is nothing you can do but replace the unit.

These cars were never top of the line, the Corvette is. And the C5s did have climate control, but I doubt it's possibile to rig that system up in an F-body without extensive work.

after reading that other thread linked, it would seem like you could rig up a thermostat to a relay that completes a circuit (for air - ac request signal and blower power? and maybe power to fan for heater?) that would require you to still set the ***** for air or heat. i think this would be cool to have.

Exactly. Less BS to break. Easier to work on/diagnose IMO.

I hate all that crap, it's nice being able to just turn the **** instead of holding hot or cold button for 8 seconds and then having to hold the other cold button for 8 seconds. Just takes too damn long. Same crap with power seats.

Does the new Camaro have that? Even if it didn't, I wouldn't be disappointed...

And while I've been researching Vettes lately, I've found that the "nicer" temperature controls with a screen tend to fade over time and need replacement. While our ***** will continue to work, just saying.

I am perfectly happy with mine as well. Extremely hot for winter and very cold a/c for those bad summer days. What more could you want from a sports or muscle car? It seems simple to me and I don't want things breaking either that cost way too much to fix. I find it is still a pleasure to drive any a/c equipped car since the switch back in '93-'94. Maybe I don't expect much after those old a/c days.

Dunno, never had a circuit board go out on me. I did have the levers break off me with the cable operated. I have had vacuum leaks that kept a door or two from moving. Its just a part of it. Everything eventually wears out

not to hijack the thread, but i figured id ask here instead of starting a new one about something similar. I just got a 2000 Camaro SS and i was wondering if you could put the head/feet heat setting on without turning on the AC compressor. If you look at it during the day its blue, but at night it lights up normal.

I much prefer our simple manual controls where you adjust it the way YOU want it. I hate my wife's G8 climate control that automatically BLASTS you with high fan speeds as soon as you start the car. I find myself having to fiddle with a bunch of settings to get it where I want it, instead of just turning the ****. I hate overblown electronics on cars in general.

My friends 2002 yukon has **** based auto climate control that is single din and single zone...and the mid 90's LT1 buick roadmaster does as well...and it might be able to drive a cable for the hot/cold selector, since it's probably very similar to a caprice/impala ss.
