Default It is possible to replace the oil pump bolt without dropping the pan

Changed another ls1 oil pump, unlike last time I decided to see if I could do it without touching a bolt in the oil pan to drop it down.
It took a pen magent to line it up and a screw driver to hold it up as I turned it with needle nose until I could get a wrench on it but it is physically possible.
Can't say I'd recommend it. Had the bolt fallen it might have sucked.
But people always ask if it's possible so there you go.

I'd also never recommend you do it from the top.
At least need a lift so you can be eye level and see what you are doing.

all you have to to is remove all the bolts on the oil pan except for the 2 in the back. you just need to drop the pan .5-1 inch to get the clearance you need.

I guess this way would eliminate the possibilty of misaligning the oil pan.

i did mine without dropping pan. just loosened the bolts on the pan enough to drop it a hair. Getting the bolt on the PU tube was a pain but magnets helped when it fell several times.
