Your Z looks great. I'd keep it and invest some money into a good set of heads. It could re-kindle your interest in the car again.

Once again, thanks to one and all for the insights, opinions & thoughts.

I've been thinking about this non stop since the weekend, and I mave made my decision.

The 99' is staying put

The more I thought it all through, the easier the right choice became

See ya on the road

Good to hear, that HO might get hard to replace later on and looks too good to give up

Hey I say stick with your car now. I honestly do not have a single reason I can think of to trade up for a new Camaro. In fact, I am about to save your car's pictures onto my computer with the rest of my collection of awesome looking F-bodies. I used to live in New Lenox, IL (where it says you got your tune). If I still lived there I'd try to get you to buy the new Camaro so I could buy the 99 Z haha.

Very good decision! Car payments SUCK!!! If its paid for, keeping it is the best choice! Plus, putting all the work into it and depending on how long you've had it, you would probly miss it terribly once it was gone.

If you ever feel the need to get a '10 camaro, you should keep your '99 as well....IMHO ofcourse

Glad to see you want to keep it. Looks like you have put a lot of time into your 4th gen, I think you would have missed it.

You have a very clean car man, looks good with that orange paint. I think the looks on the 98-02 fbodys look 10x better! Not only that, your buying a heavier car that doesnt look as good and is going to be costing you lots of cash!!!

once the wow factor wears off after having the newest edition of the camaro series you will kickin yourself in the ***. have you calculated what the financing cost will be after your done paying it off? i would say add 5k minimum to the top of the price tag. should i even say what the full coverage costs would be for 2010 vs yours over the next 5yrs?
it would be safe to say your lookin at 10k on top of that 2010 price tag which basically means you gave away your 99 for free.

discipline vs indulgence

2010 maybe a better handling car just like and a corvette being the best but between the 3 it woundn't even matter because you wouldn't be able to push the car to its fullest capabilities unless you did track racing or whatever racing there is where you can actually get your money's worth of why you chose that vehicle over the other. i could go on...

This is a great point. I made this same mistake in 1999. I had a beautiful '89 Formula 350, no rust, no damage, super clean car. But it had some miles, and just minor bolt-ons. I was young, wanted more power, newer car, and the hottest thing in my price range. So I sold the Formula for $6,500 and bought a brand new nicely optioned Z28 for $25,600, plus interest, sales tax, etc. I only kept the '99 Z for about a year, but I still lost the $6.5k on depreciation, insurance, taxes, and interest over that time. So yeah, I basically just gave my nice old car away for nothing. Wish I could go back and undo that mistake. I'd love to have that Formula today.

The most recent posts reflect what drove the choice to keep it.

My 99 is paid off....if I took on a 10' even if I get something knocked off the price, by the time tax, title & other fees are tacked on I'm probably @ 37 or 38 K.

I'd have to take on payments, and of course interest...all things that would cut into the budget to mod the car. I also strongly suspect that the 5th gen car is going to become ho hum soon enough..meanwhile, I'll have a unique car to roll around in ( 1,402 total HO cars ).

Instead of getting slammed in a car loan, I bought some goodies for the 99...an SS spoiler, some suspension parts and a set of Torq Thrust 2s that I'm having the centers powder coated black on.

Down the road if they roll out a hugger orange 5th gen car, I'll give it a look see..till then, I'm good with what I have!

Ever since I decided that I wanted to do this^^^^^ I have seen like 5 cars with it and now you saying you're going to do that. I guess we just have good taste. Lol.

This is exactly correct.

If you have a cool older car, it's only going to get cooler with time so long as you keep it mint.

If you buy the newest, hottest thing, in a year or two it'll be just a normal car, and stay that way for a long time before it gets old enough to be cool and special again.

As for you guys ditching the ZR1s to do TT2 wheels, I'm thinking about ditching my TT2s and going back to ZR1s. Both wheels look great, I can never decide which I like more.
