Considering TBSS
So I just found out the wife is expecting and we were talking about needing a bigger car…She said the word minivan and I said Trailblazer SS …
I have always liked TBSS’s and was wondering what everyone thought about them? I have seen a few with low miles for as cheap as $18K. I have heard they have the same sh$t 4l60E trans that are prone to go out as all LS1’s…. Are there any other downsides? What kind of performance can you get out of them with bolt on’s??
Any info is appreciated
Thanks!

I have no complaints about my MANY 4L60Es. Keep the fluid cool, shift points under 6k rpm, and the fluid clean....and for the most part they'll last a LONG time at stock power levels.
I would love a TBSS as my next daily driver.

Bought my wife one for DD, she loves everything about it but the mileage. But we live with it, it's a sweet ride for a stocker. 4L70E tranny, BTW, not a 4L60E. 32,000 miles on ours and no problems at all. Don't think it will get any mods for awhile, too many other projects ahead of it.

I have one and its an awesome car. I use it for my winter car it is AWD. I get about 11.5 mpg hwy @ 74mph. The motor is the LS2 with the truck style intake.
If you were to do any performance to it i would start with the transmission even before a tune. I've seen these transmissions pop with a tune and CAI. Try FLT VI transmission with a nice converter.
Some guys get these 4600 # bricks doing mid 12s with a tune, full exhaust and intake along with a new transmission and converter.
The transferase can hold around 650awhp. After i am done building my T/A i will be building my TBSS with an LS3 and a procharger.

08 TBSS here. RWD and in Alaska which has done fine. I will have to agree with 4L70's taking a crap for people that start adding mods from beating the trucks. The only complaint that I have with it is I have gone through 2 driver's window motors for the little over a year that I have had it. Looks like GM can't rid themselves of window motor problems, but isn't on all of them. The stock rear is a monster though and hard to break which is a plus for sure Other than that, it is a LS2 with a truck manifold basicly. You will net the same power as usual with mods just that you have to push another 1000+ lbs. Look at it that way.
Gorden0652, forget the cam. Maggie it Make the TBSS whine a little. That will teach a SRT8 really quick.

I just got an '07 before the winter started. The AWD is awesome in the snow but sucks gas bad. If you are looking to mod it, then the tranny needs to be upgraded as said above. Its def a fun vehicle

I've got an '07 AWD 3SS and my fiance and I love it. We're actually going to buy another one when her truck takes a crap. Mods to my TBSS include a cai, stainless works headers, magnaflow catback, tune, and trans cooler. It absoulutely rips for an suv and it's a great balance between daily driver comfort and racecar peformance. Btw I also use my TBSS to tow my Camaro to the track and it does an awsome job.

We have an 06 tbss 2wd, my wife usual drives it but I do take it out for some fun.
Our TBSS has a tune, homemade lowmount intake, sw lmf catback, efans, ud pulley, 2800 vig, FLT trans. With the rear seats out on drag radials with spares up front it has gone 12.6 with about a 1000ft da.

With just a mail-order tune, efans, ud pulley full weight I went a bunch of 13.30's at 103

Truck has 47,000 now and dont plan on getting rid of it any time soon.
BTW I wouldnt waste my time with a maggie on the truck but thats just me.

Keep in mind that the 2WD models will hold up better than the AWD. Also the '07-up models have a 5 year 70,000 mile warranty on the powertrain. When i was looking I didnt even consider a '06 bc of the warranty

I have an 06 with a tune, cai and exhaust...love it! I wouldnt worry about the trans if you're gonna keep it stock since it would be covered by warranty anyway. If you're gonna mod it then you gotta pay to play.

Actually the 07's get 5yr 100,000 mile warranty ....RPM Trans out of Indiana builds a stout trans that is good up to 750 hp .....I have a 07 AWD and I have had a maggie on mine with a stock bottomend efans,headers,MP112HH and a 3000 stall with a rpm level V1 trans with a shift kit and the best I did in Negative DA was 11.983@113 ....It was pretty consistant at 12:30's@111 in the mild summer but when the temps got up in the 90's heatsoak would kill me and it would run 12:6X's 107....
There is a forum you can go to and get ALL the info that is available on the tbss's and it is a great forum tbssowners.com ....
There are guy's that are running head and cam, stall with bolton's and hitting 12.1X's & 12.20's pretty consistant with the AWD.
There are guy's with just bolton's that are getting in the 12:30's ...Keep in mind that the guy's that are running the sick times are at places along the coast such as atco in some great negative DA'S ....BUT NEVER THE LESS , these are great sleepers which can put some great looks on peoples faces....
When you are setting at a light and a C4 or C5 comes up next to you and you pull them real hard light to light ...they pull up and give some serious looks and thumbs up and the looks are there faces are priceless ...
