Default Crossroads...........

Hey,

I own a 01 A4 ws6, and I'm considering replacing it with a C5Z
The main reason is the ws6 isn't nimble enough around the corners, which is where I want the improvement.

The WS6 has a power to weight ratio of 9.7, and the C5Z scores a 7.6

I've compaired other cars too, and seen that the Ultima has a 4.9 HP/LB (!) ratio, but I cant really afford one. So I'm wondering if maybe I should get something instead of the C5Z that I can afford that's inbetween in performance and budget..... (Although it must be close to a 6.0 HP/LB, as the Z has style)

Considered a kit car, but the build time puts me off, and an engine swap (wiring!) is a bit more than I'd be capable of, again build time puts me off.

I have a budget of around $28k and maybe another $6k for mods after a year or two....

Got any ideas?

Or I should go with the C5Z, stickies and h/c??

Thoughts appreciated

Is the $28k after selling your WS6 or in addition to it?

You could probably make that WS6 handle really well for a lot less than $28k, couldn't you?

I agree
You would be amazed what a quality set of Shocks good Springs and a Watt's link can do for an F-body.

The $28k is after selling the WS6

You would be amazed what a quality set of Shocks
Already got konis, and they did make a nice difference, but I think driving on narrow windey roads in a heavy car with the A4 trans is slowing me up quiet a bit. I can drive my manual 4 banger faster around the bends the the WS6.......

I am starting to come to the same conclusion.

I'm sure after the shock install my alignment must be off, could that be causing much of a confidence problem?

Shocks won't cause your alignment to be off... I have a Koni/Strano setup and it handles like a go kart almost but the ride is not as good as a C5. You may just wanna add Strano bars/springs and a Watts link....I wanna Watts bad but am doing my 402 first...

BTW I think it cool you are over in Europe but love American muscle....

American muscle NA puts out more hp than many FI over here , more stylish, more power, cooler and more awe inspireing than all the 'JAP crap' that's 'cruising' around over here, it's a no brainer IMO

Some of my classmates were saying how 'cool' and 'fast' (!) the new Vauxhall ASTRA (!) was LOL So I took in a mag article about my 'old cadi' as they refered to it when I told them I had a USA car, and their jaws hit the floor My last day's going to involve taking my car in and some smokey burnouts in the car park

As others have said, it seems with that kind of money you can really improve your suspension! Id rather have something that had 80% of the C5's handling with 1000% of the C5's styling (IMO), plus stick some of that money into some more power even to give you even more of an edge over those English folks

I hear what you're saying, but $20 - $23 k of that money would come from the sale of the ws6, and the other $5 is either mod money for suspension mods (Watts and sways) OR I can get the C5Z imported here instead, and mod that later on.

But I'm wondering if I sell the WS6 to trade up in handling performance, is there a better choice than the Z for that sort of money?........

I need something fast around the bends, and as said the A4 trans in the WS6 is slowing me down, so a manual next time is for sure, and the C5Z would be a better car for our roads.

For sure I've considered LOTS of alternatives, but I just cant see a better choice for that sort of cash, I just want to be sure I've checked out all of my options.......

I guess I didn't realize that the WS6 would be worth so much, I guess being it's so unique there it'd make a huge difference.

Sure you can buy one here for less, but not an 2001 ws6 with low mileage. Shipping, VAT, import duty, UK conversion mods, SVA test, MOT test, registration fee and number plate costs, handling fees, and a large amount of paperwork / hassle, the costs soon add up.....

But worth it for the V8 and rareity aspects
