Default cam swap ?

hi all..im new to the forums as well as the ls1 world..ive had my trans am 3 weeks and i bought a ms4 cam...im in the process of acquiring all my parts to make the swap possible..my question is...to the guys that have done the "pen magnet" gig to suspend the lifters so you dont havta pull the heads/intake..how are you securing the magnets to the engine so theyll keep the lifters lifted?...thanks in advance...

The pen magnets have a little clip on them, bend it so it rests on the head, thus holding the lifter.

I don't like that method, too afraid those shoddy magnets will separate from the pen part and stick to the lifter. I prefer the wooden dowels myself.

wooden dowels..sounds like a better/safer method..how will it press into the lifter if its only cupped for a pushrod to sit in?

I used wooden dowls and it was cheaper than pen magnets and it worked perfect.
I actually got the idea from a online Cam Swap guide for LS engines.
Anyhow, it was two 5/16 or 1/4" wooden dowels 26" in length. I used 5/16.
I picked em up at a local crafs store, but HD or Lowes would have em
After you remove the WP, Timing Cover and the Cam Retaining Plate, and spin the cam a few times to knock all the lifters up and away from it (removal of rocker arms and PRs required)
then there are 2 holes the Cam plate was covering that you can slide the dowels into and if a lifter happens to drop it will just bump into the dowl and not drop into the oil pan.
Idea worked great for me.

He is working on a Goat, but its still an LS and has great ideas.
Good luck.
