GM has the best V8's hands down. Why would they stop? To boot, they're amongst cheapest, smallest, most fuel efficient, reliable and emissions compliant engines out there. ****, making a V8 is just about the only thing they can do right.

You won't find many GM executives teaching at Wharton, but they aren't that dumb.

They could switch to letters, there is the LSA afterall. There is still the LS5 and LS8 left.

Well, got to talk to that family member again over the weekend. Man he has some tight lips! lol. All he would say is (with a big smile) this platform isn't going anywhere for a while, Gen V is coming SOON, just got the ok to start working on Gen VI. Said the things that are coming to light right now are VERY cool, and can't wait for the future. GM is spending money like no tomorrow.

That's never been the problem with them. It's making money that has been a bit of a trouble area.

Considering that Obama used to or may still own a 300C Hemi, I doubt he wants the V-8 to go away. Car and Driver did a article years ago on what candidates drove as their personal cars.

How do you get from "make cars more like the Corrolla" to "eliminate all V8 engines?"

You do realize that even Toyota makes V8 engines, right?

Corolla is a piece of ****. My wife had one when we got married, we used it as a DD for several years. The Cavalier we replaced it with was a much better car.

Ouch. That's horrible. Here I was thinking Cavalier's were near the bottom of the pile.

or they could start going to 4 digit codes

LS10, LS11, etc

Also they could just start reusing codes. IIRC the SD-455 motor in the 73-74 trans am was an LS2.

Wrong. You must be one of those misguided souls that think toyotas don't break. I owned one for 6 years, they break - as much or more than GMs.

I still have the Cavalier. It's been a great car, not crap at all for what it is (remember, these are economy/commuter cars, not luxury/performance/haulers/etc. Perfectly reliable, better power than Corolla or Civic.

There is an additional option, its called a 4.6L V8 that Ford offers, perhaps you should look into them?! Oh wait, they are offering 6.2L motors now too

Maybe in styling & luxury but they are very solid, reliable cars.
