WTF is this?
I changed the oil in the wifes Goat saturday. when i pulled the drain plug out i found this stuck on the end of it. The car has been running perfect and still does. There was thin one day we were leaving for work and when she started it up it made this horrible knocking sound for about 4 or 5 seconds and it has dont done it since. That was about 2 weeks before i changed the oil

I saw a cam from a GTO once that was missing chunks from a cam lobe or two, and the car still ran relatively fine, idled a little funny (the guy was actually racing and noticed his times were dropping off and couldn't figure out why). That was up at Rapid a couple years back.

I would have to say that knocking you heard was that piece making it's way to the bottom, that's for sure. Looks like it got the **** beat out of it. Sorry, I have no clue though what it is. Heck that could have started out flat and got beat into that shape.

As a piece of metal being caught by the oil drain plug, I'd have to say that it's quite large. I mean, we all change our oil and find the traditional "shaving scum" stuck on the drain plug, but DUDE... that's a CHUNK.

Kinda looks like a lifter cup, but I seriously doubt that if it's running ok. Just saying. How big is that freeze plug in the end of the crank? Could be why you have a rear main seal leak. I'm just trying to throw something out there cause I cant think of what is or tell what shape it started out as. Good luck man. This has me interested as well.
