178k miles. would you buy it?

I would say no because it's a auto.. Auto's are worth less then manuals. If it was a manual and you got it for 4k and it's a clean title then I would say alright. My friend just got a m6 trans am with 150k for 4k. People forget the value of a auto is lower then manual.. And 180k is alot of miles to blow 4k on knowing you may need rebuilds down the line pretty soon, especially if your planning mods.

i plan on replacing the trans with a beefed up trans. so if it goes out that is fine. i will be replacing engine, trans, rear end, suspension,brakes,etc.. i just dont want a roller because then i have to start from scratch and i dont want to do that, at least this way i will know exactly what hooks up where.

I paid 3600 for my current Z28 with 176k but it's a 6-speed and needed nothing. I say go a little lower but I wont hesitate to buy a high mileage car. LS1's are beast and run for a very very long time when maintained!
