4th Gen LS1 MPG's?

^^^ Same here. My work commute is 50/50, 7 miles each way, and I DD my car in the summer, from probably May through October. I use Fuel Log on my phone to track every fill up, and I usually get around 18-20 depending on whether or not we went somewhere that required some highway travel that cycle. I got a best of 23 driving it home from Philly the day I picked it up, which was a mild mannered drive since I just bought the car and didn't want to break it on the way home lol. I was also cruising above 70 most of the way, at times doing 90. I'd like to do a hypermile drive on the NYS Thruway some day from Rochester to Albany just to see what I can get if I cruise at 65-70 the whole way.

These days, its something to keep int he back of your head. The newest 4th gen is 12 years old, the oldest being 21 - gas wasn't an issue back then. Even now its cheap compared to other countries but for the distances many drive, MPG is an issue. Thankfully my cammed V8 muscle car gets damn good MPG for what it is.

My dad always joked about how my car sucks gas with its "big V8 motor", until I actually ran the numbers. Apparently my "big V8 motor" gets better overall MPG than my dad's '99 BMW 528i DD

For people like me who DD their cars and gas being how high it is (I'm paying 3.89 at the moment here, will surely be 4.09 by summer I'm sure) then mileage certainly comes in to consideration. I don't have a money tree in my yard, and fuel costs are an important part of the budget I keep.

All in all i dont really care how many mpgs i get, i drive it for fun and never look back. But it is nice when someone mentions their so and so gets 22mpg, and i tell em my 300+ hp camaro gets 26, and they dont believe me till i show em.

Like above said maintenance is key. I did fresh plugs wires cleaned maf air filter and the difference was noticable. Decent before but easily 25 on the highway even with a few pulls here and there. If i babied it i could squeak 28 maybe, but wheres the fun in that. Plugs were only pain of it all, but neccasssary for spray.

I found a few interesting things to get better mpgs: I was able to get 19.5 combined 50/50 highway and freeway driving and one or two pulls. Since then I have done a skip shift delete and I got 21mpg on the same commute with more pulls. Also, I found that keeping the car between 1500-2000 rpm seems more efficient than bogging the motor at 1200 or so.

6 speed cars are like cheating when it comes to mileage - my 6 speed car with 342's and a lot of bolt ons will blow my stock a4/323 car away for mpg... pretty confident it will pull down close to 30 hwy...previous owner said it got 29 never calculated it , don't think its much worse on back country roads either so many gears to choose from to hit the sweet spot.

Zombie thread but I was running my numbers today and comparing with others and I am pretty happy. I am getting anywhere from 310-325 miles to a tank which is right at 20mpg driving 50% on the highway and 50% city with a 2000 Z28 A4 ZR1's 2.73 rear gear tuned with full exhaust and k&n I will shoot for 23 after a tune up and see what I can get. Thats driving normal 99.9% of the time.
Edit: I got fuel after work and this time actually paid attention to everything before i drove off. I had pumped right at 13 gallons and made it 310 miles. Thats right at 24mpg, i only got fuel because the gauge said E and haven't owned it long enough to know how accurate it really is. I dont think it will get much better.
