Recently cracked the block on my 383(bad mechanic) in my 70 chevelle ss clone. been debating nonstop weather to just replace the 383 to save some cash on parts or go ***** to the wall and give her the 454LSX she deserves. currently have a T350 tranny, 4:10 gears. would most likely get a TH400.
I have about $16k saved up. Think this would this be enough to get the LSX and tranny and have them installed?
Appreciate the help

You can build an amazing LSX for half that, and put the rest into something else. In all honesty, I spent about 8k building up the engine in my old school Firebird, and wish I had spent the money on an LSx instead.
Is the 383 a Gen 3 block or an old school mouse motor with a stroker crank?

I like old engines in old cars, so I wouldn't do any LSx in a Chevelle. But I also wouldn't do an SBC in a Chevelle-sized car, I'd go with a 502ci crate or custom built BBC. Just my preference though.

Personally, I like old tech in my old cars, and new tech in my new(er) cars. You can build huge power either way, so pick whichever you prefer. It's just a matter of preference.
If you choose to move forward with the LSx conversion, check out our conversion and hybrids section for details from many members that have done this swap into A-bodies like yours.

A friend of mine was debating whether to get C or D sized breast implants. I told her, "why go through the expense and pain of going with the C's, just so later down the road you could question whether you should've gone bigger or not and have to go through the pain and money again to get it right? Go all out the first time!"
My advice to you is the same-if you were content with the 383 you'd never think about the 454; get the 454 even though it may take longer and cost more-but in the end you, like my friend, won't have to worry about whether you went big enough or not...

Im willing to bet youll spend close to 13k-14k on just the motor alone..depending on what setup you go with. Carbed is cheaper than efi but both are going to cost you..quick general breakdown.
EFI
