Yeah, I had pretty much the same results with the FTRA. I'm glad I bought it used.

As far as track times, I run pretty consistantly. I tried the block off plate and removed the weather stripping to disable it for a run, and ran 13.7. Next run I removed the block off and replaced the weatherstrip and ran a .....13.7.

 

Might sound dumb but what does SSRA stand for?

ive had mine on for over a year now, been through a few rainy days but no issues. I didnt notice any difference in power meaning when i go WOT do i feel it pulling hard, not really felt the same to me as before. Mine is sealed off at the front of the air box which i got a rubber seal with my SSRA. I dont know or cant comfirm if ive gained mph in the quarter since ive never been to the track.

 

So...I'm gathering that the SSRA has had marginal, somewhat documented improvements over stock, while the FTRA has shown no benefits at all?

StuntmanMike made 2 runs. One with the FTRA open, and the other with it blocked off. That's too small of a sample to draw any conclusions. And I have not done any back to back runs at the track comparing before and after with the FTRA. If someone can notice a 2mph trap speed and 0.1sec ET gain by the seat of their pants on the street with nothing else to compare to, I call

I went with the FTRA because:
1.) It retains AC, and I DD my car in the summer.
2.) I like stainless steel over aluminum or plastic because it won't corrode or crack.
3.) It doesn't reduce ground clearance and break on curbs, speed bumps, etc.

I'm not looking to squeeze every last HP out of my car. I wanted a nice quality piece that will hold up for a very long time and provide some gains, so the FTRA was the right choice for me.

Is there an SSRA non-A/C version?

 

I'm not doubting the possibility of the FTRA being beneficial, I was just looking for a quick consensus/opinion about both products. Honestly, I was thinking about buying the FTRA myself...

You can't go wrong with either design since it serves the same purpose. However, if you prefer a bottom breather design, just do a FRA mod. Also remember the SSRA angles away from the radiator, so its not blocking it so air can flow freely through the radiator. Your also less prone for hydrolocking the engine with the SSRA. Not to mention it has enough room for a nice tranny cooler, and thats a huge plus.

The one bad thing about it is its prone to crack when you hit something, but on the flipside, it is flexible enough to withstand a few abrasions here and there from going up a steeeeeep hill or being towed ona flatbed for example.

I haven't decided if this will just be the scoop that comes with the SSRA from now on, or if it will be an option.

 

u need to do both. The original design is great IMO, but you need to offer both. For those who already have it, like me, I'd definately buy that as a stand alone upgrade, but for those who don't have the ssra it'll be a great option over the original design.

What you need to try and do is 1/4 mile times: Base. FRA. SSRA. **NEW** SSRA.

With that being said, i don't see it being much of a improvement if any, however having that is a huge convinience.

before i put the SSRA, i was running 12.9-13.1
