For the power and performance that these cars give, and people still boast 20MPG (which most of us get), an LS powered car is not a "gas hog" compared to Mustangs or Carb'd cars.

20mpg? what mods do you have done? Im getting 20 local / 27+ highway ;-) Still Have a DD though, 37mpg. I do however like your math. Oh and you forgot cost of replacing batteries on the Prius once they go... Still waiting to hear about someone doing that out of warranty.

Good stuff! Even if the numbers were reversed I still would not buy a Prius. When I go to a gas station and see what crap other people drive, compared to what I'm driving, I smile, and will still be smiling even if gas goes to $5 or $6 a gallon. They can save their $1,000 - $2,000 per year but I'm happier all year long, year after year. Best money I can spend when driving is such an important part of my life. Always has been, and hopefully always will.

My manages a battery company in austin texas, he told me the batteries in priuses and suck need replaced every 6-8 yrs give or take and cost between $5-9k. One more reason I dont go tree hugger.

Trust me man, I love my car and It dont' too much bother me about the fact it uses alot of gas , but I have an 05 GMC Sierra 4x4 that is better on gas than my car is. Hard for me to complain much tho since I'm on a stalled auto with 3.90 gears and I was expecting that. I may knock down 18-20mpg at best on the highway, but I mostly drive mine in town and ..it hurts lol...but man is it fun when ppl give me the "WTF?" look at every redlight from hearing my procharger whistle lol. **** a Prius lol

I think even the engineers that design hybrids know that they are a waist of money. I remember seeing some one do similar math on the difference between a regular Honda Civic and a Civic hybrid, and in the time it would take you to save enough money on gas to make up the price difference your warrant will have expired and you'll have to replace the $8000 battery. Then buy the time you've saved enough money on gas to pay for that battery you'll be the proud owner of a 250,000-300,000 mile 15-20yr old car.
