your not saving any more than you would have the difference between reg and premium is still 30 cents no matter how expensive or cheap the gas gets. and yes most people lose enough mpg to make paying the extra 30 worth it. plus the car might start pinging since it was meant to run on premium. so is it worth it...

I DD my 99 Z28 about 70 miles a day. In last couple years I have put 60K miles on car, mostly burning regular gas. Car is completely stock, no mods at all.

There is a noticable difference in performance with a tank of 93 octane. Computer appears smart enough to advance timing back to where it should be. Owners manual says regular will work but with loss in performance.

These cars are what, 15 gallon tanks? So by running regular you are saving $.30x15 gallons = $4.50. People spend that on a cup of Starbucks coffee so not really worth it in my opinion when gas is already $4/per gallon.

I would sell my car before I tortured it by running improper fuel.

It's like feeding your dog offbrand cheerios instead of dog food because the price of a bag went up a buck.

BINGO

when you figure the cost to fill the tank, and how little you will save by using 87 as opposed to 93 and the potential damage that you could do to your engine...people with this mentality need to go back to 5th grade mathematics.

your going to lose mpg by using lower octane, negating any savings that you think you are getting. And having your engine run like ***** in the process.waste of time

a completely stock car should be fine with regular gas. my car has been tuned for 93 octane. So switching I'm sure I would see a huge difference of course Idon't drive enough as it is anyways..

That means the computer is no longer detecting knock and is referring back to the high octane table...

IMO if you have a nice ride you should treat it right ,, if you wanna save at the pump buy a 4 banger to daily drive and leave the toy for the weekend ,,

pumping gas in my cammed c5 z16 z does not bother me the loping choping sound and performance make me forget about gas pump prices,,

If you wanna play, you gotta pay. If the extra $0.30 is gonna break the bank, you're in the wrong hobby.

As I've always said, if paying an extra $0.30/gallon is too much....you shouldn't be driving a car that needs 91/93 octane. Live within your means.

I would run 89 minimum...ethanol in the gas is why I run 93, that ethanol is frickin terrible for fuel system, or if it's not a 93 tune then run 87 with stabil ethanol treatment if it doesn't ping.

Whut? Why would you run 93 instead just because it has ethanol in it?

And who said it's terrible for your fuel system? Is your car a pre 1990 one?

Some clarification here. First of all, 87 octane fuel actually burns faster than 93 and requires less timing. In a lightly loaded engine, ie commuting down the highway, you don't need the extra octane avoid hitting knock sensor. In old days, distributers had vacuum advance - this advanced timing on engines that were lightly loaded (high vacuum) to increase fuel mileage.

If you run your car hard or have mods, high octane is the way to go. If you daily drive your stock car, like most F-body cars are (maybe not LS1Tech readers), you are literally burning money purchasing 93 octane.
