ls2 short block- worth keeping or selling?
hi all-
I have a LS2 short block that has some scarring in the cylinder walls. I had the machine shop eye ball it and was told that .010-.015 would most likely clean it up worst case we could go .030 but he would prefer not to. My goal is to make 500+rwhp. Unsure if i will run boost or not; if so no more then 7psi.
what it comes down to is, this is my starting point i would have to buy EVERYTHING on from here. Is it worth keeping the block, or should i sell it.
If i was to sell what should i expect to ask for it. it has pistons, rod, and crank.
If there I do sell, what should I look at getting. I am building a track RX7 with a v8.
This isnt going to be a dream build, Id like to keep the engine + trans setup under 7.5k.
if im missing anything else you that might help you help me let me know

0.010 is about the max you can safely go on the aluminum blocks and still be able to make decent power without sacrificing longetivity.
People have gone 0.030 over on those blocks succesfully, but I would not throw any sort of boost on that.
I would sell it and either go iron or 4.005 bore aluminum for your needs.

thanks for the help, how much should i expect to sell it for; i looked on the for sale threads and i didnt see many ls2 blocks recently so i dont have any idea
Either way, it's going to be equal to or more than what's going to cost you for a replacement, especially if you go iron.

You would be better off buying a junkyard complete 5.3 or 6.0 and start from there. They are making some big hp on boosted 5.3s and you won't be looking for the rest of the parts you'll need.
