Default 98 vs 99-02 Fbodys maf and map

I've searched around to find the differences in the 98 vs 99 and up cars but I can't seem to find a solid answer. I know the differences are the 98s had speed density, perimeter valve covers, no coil brackets, 806 heads, some of the wiring is different etc. My main question is did the 98s have a maf and no map or vice versa? The reason I'm asking is I always thought speed density tuning was no maf. I looked at my first 98 car yesterday and i seen it had a maf sensor. I was shocked. Is it that a speed density car had the maf but no map on these cars?

Different:
ECU
ABS system
Valve Covers
Sleeves in the block are thinner (thats why 98s is more prone to piston slap)
larger injectors
Late 98s have c5 cam
98s do not have ls6 intake

i think thats most of what is 98 specific

Not sure what sort of searching you did to find this incorrect information, but I can assure you that '98s do in fact have an MAF and do not use speed density as their primary default.

Check out the FAQ sticky in the Newbie Tech section for further details on the differences. https://ls1tech.com/forums/new-ls1-o...questions.html

'98s are less prone to piston slap in my experience. It's usually the '01+ that seems to have this problem the worst.
