Default Which LS engine to shoot for?

Hi everyone

I'm always toying with ideas and always trying to expand my knowledge on engines and what not and had a question

I have a 99 LS1 with 126k miles, if I wanted to purchase a new engine, which one would be the best to shoot for?

I would hate to pay over 5-6k, LS2? LS6? LS3?

Opinions appreciated

If a stock unit is what you're looking for and want the aluminum block, LS3.

Yeah I would prefer aluminum, since I would like to stay N/A.
I'm hoping the new LT motor does really well that it makes LS3 engines price go down

LS3 would be my choice if N/A. Otherwise I would go with a LQ4.

Whats your goals for the new motor? Do you want a crate motor to drop in and go? Or do you plan on building the motor and doing H/C/I etc?

LQ4/9 Bottom end, LS3 Top....Much cheaper then a complete LS2 and will certainly outflow it.

Only 126k on your LS1 and minor bolt ons you won't have to be replacing it anytime soon so you will have time think about it. I have a LS1 and LS2 and If one of them were to go I'd try my hardest to get a ls3

I pondered a similar situation, head n cam ls1 or buy another engine..Ive got less money in my LS2 with LS3 topend than what it would have been by the time i bought heads, fast, etc for the ls1. Hard to beat i nice budget setup that you can do with a 4" bore and rectangular port heads.

Now, let me ask this one, I'm trying to plan for the future within the next year, and would it be wise to heads/cam, FAST 92/92 a 127k LS1?

I'm trying to decide between modding an LS1 and building a new LS1 when this one breaks OR saving up for a new motor like an LS3 that I can mod BEFORE they install it...

Thoughts?!

So I think I've narrowed it down to finding a new LS6 or saving for an LS3.

Thoughts & opinions please

The General's engineers designed the LS engine for 250,000 miles so given
proper maintenance (assuming you know the car's history)...you should be
fine camming; CNC'ing your heads, and making 400-430 rwhp range.
