Default Oh no i need help

Ok i am a new member to this forum and i have not yet figured out were everything is so if this is in the wrong spot please tell me and I will move this thread

Well I did it I drilled to far in too my top end on my budget swap and now I need to know what I can do? I was trying to remove some header bolts and wouldn't you know snap one breaks and only one so i thought no big deal ill just drill a hole in the middle and use my EZouts WRONG, first attempts major fails broke the first EZout off in the bolt managed to get it out did the same on the second try and on the 3rd drilled all the way threw the head assembly.

Now I know I will need to remove the one I drilled threw what I really need to know is can I bring it to a machine shop and have them fix it if they can or would it be cheaper to just replace it?

That really depends on what heads you have. If they are 853 or 241 castings I would just look for some 243/799 as a quick cheap upgrade. You could have the 853/241 tig patched but it would probably cost just as much as the heads are worth.

X2...

And broken header bolts happen a lot (dissimilar metals). When I picked up my junkyard 5.3 I had 4 ( 2 per head ) broken bolts. I drilled maybe a 1/4in into them with a lefthanded drill bit as step one, When that didn't work I welded a nut to the broken stud and boom out it came no problem.

Just a lil FYI next time.

Those are 5.3L heads. Probably flow similar to the 853/241 heads with a little more compression. If you can find a pair for $80 good deal to replace the stock ones. Otherwise look for something else.

If it were me, I'd drill out all the offending crap and helicoil the hole. Then pack it full of Ultra Black RTV on the final assembly and not worry about it. The rtv will seal against the water jacket with no problems. When I was at Underground Racing the Stryker heads for the Vipers would commonly have broken through the water jacket with the exhaust bolt holes. After a good cleaning and a dose of rtv the leak was no more, even on a 30# boosted 1500 hp Viper.

Wow impressive I gave this some thought before I ordered the new heads but decided against it because I am using this engine in an overland of safari type Jeep and really just need the piece of mind when I am in the middle of now where land

Well I decided since I have to take down the top end I figured I would do a cam swap does anyone out there have a good recommendation for me? I am more interested in torque and reliability and less concerned with HP but it wouldn't hurt to have just a little more also I will be running a stock 4L60E trans.
