No offense, but that kind of stuff is for the kind of guys that are into transformers stickers and $2 autozone lettering IMO. Kind of :

I don't see how this is "rice". Maybe if you put it on a fartcan civic with neon lights and lowrider suspension, but my buddy has it on his 94 Z28 which runs 9's, he takes it to car shows all the time and people love it.

Not a fan, personally. It's right up there with custom neon/LED lighting - too flashy blinky for me.

Also, that just seems like a bumper-melting accident waiting to happen.

Funny thing is people were doing this since the 30's, when rice was just something served with teriyaki. When it's turned off you can't even tell I have it, it's just something people don't usually see everyday...

What I'm worried about is if they can affect chrome or stainless steel exhaust tips.

People wore fedoras in the 1930's too, and "hipsters" were probably some form of pants or something.

I've always thought it was pretty cool, but not cool enough to do it to my own vehicles. I'm not a fan of neon lights, but how can one not like fire?!

I'd personally be concerned about the bumper cover and all the other plastic/composite materials melting in the rear of the car. Honestly, I've only ever seen this stuff in action on cars that had real bumpers (ie: stuff before like 1972).

it would be cool if it was actually from the exhaust, ive had a couple small flames shoot out from my 01 Z28. or when the lambo and ferraris do it, not something id intentionally attempt to recreate. seems too dangerous and have you seen the prices of gas? haha

Bizarre exterior lighting (undercar neons, colored bulbs in the wheel wells, etc.) has been going on for many decades as well, long before the term "rice" meant anything. Rice is relative to the era, but all this type of stuff is subjective.

I'd worry much less about the exhaust piping and much more about the bumper cover, should the flames ever get fanned back towards the car, and/or just long term exposure to doing this. Paint and plastic will be much more likely to get damaged than the chromed metal bumpers of the older cars.

I've seen people who run low restriction exhaust and a rich mixture occasionally get a spit of flame in the back.

I guess. I'm just kinda in the middle between "I can mod the **** out of my motor but I don't touch the exterior of my car because GM designed it with infinite wisdom" and sinking 3k in a stupid body kit.

True, then at the same time, flames will not be coming out non-stop like a torch, they design it for 1-2 second intervals. But still, that's why I made this thread to see if anyone has any experience

Aren't these illegal?
I bet cops could get rather upset in wild fire country.

I have yet to see a law here in Washington specifically outlawing these. Then again, if I drive by a cop with 10ft of hell coming out of my tailpipes, I might draw his attention

My thoughts exactly. Same with Teflon pads on the bottom of leaf springs for the frame dragger effect of a lead sled.

I think its straight badass when it actually comes from the exhaust on a shift or something. I wouldn't throw a fake flame kit on there though.
