FBody , GTO or C5Z

be different I say! Get a GTO, I bought an 04 and I couldn't be happier! Plenty have vettes and camaro's very few have GTO's. In the time that I've owned mine (from october last year to now) I can count on both hands how many I've seen. Their the last of a dying breed

That's the decision I made when I was shopping. I knew id be driving it daily and using it when I wanted to go out of town. The GTO was a no brainer. Very comfy, LS power, power EVERYTHING, Leather, IRS and one won't see 1,000 of them on a 10 minuted drive thru town. Oh and a set of "decent" rear seats.

Hey sorry guys. Ive completley forgotten about this thread I made.
Turns out I found a really good deal on a 2005 cam , exhaust GTO. I havent been able to pick it up yet but its as good as mine. The seller and myself are actually becoming friends out of the whole deal also.
Ill be buying it from a fellow service member. Thanks for all the input guys.
The deciding factor was that Ive had a fbody already and a vette for me just is not practical right now due to traveling and driving so much. Being realistic, my goals are 650/850whp; daily driver/ weekend warrior.

Sadly the car wont be in Germany with me. I get back to the states to head to my new duty station in August. So, while on leave Im picking up the new ride so that way Im not jumping through hoops 1-2 weeks before I report to my new duty assighment.

If you want a manual trans, there is no amount of money you can spend on an F-body to make it better handling than a stock C5Z06. The Z06 is that much better.
If you want an automatic, your call.

You can mod a 4th gen to easily out handle a stock C6 Z06, none the less a C5 Z06. You may want to look into stranoparts...
Sam was running with modded C5 Z06's in his f-stock prepped Z28, which is closer to stock than you would think.

Ive been in and driven C5 Z06s, my car handles better vs them stock. If you are talking about feel, thats totally different. Im talking about holding speed through turns. Im not dismissing the Corvette, its a far superior car. But to say a modded Fbody (with 315 r-compound tires all around) cannot out handle a bone stock C5 Z06 is just silly.

Well, just ask him. A SM F-body was never faster than a SS C5 in autoX, and on a road course it gets worse. F-body axle hop.
Oh, and this is my car:

I have over 100 autoX in an F-body, and 50 some HPDE days.

Sam's posted about his F-stock Camaro being as fast as SS C5 Z06s, all of which were good drivers. And SS class isn't stock either.
I don't see how a stock C5 on street tires could possibly beat a properly modded 4th gen with much wider R-compound tires, that just doesn't make sense.

And R compounds aren't really street tires. I assumed similar tires on both, probably should have been more clear.
You can read as much or little into it as you like, but I stand by my statement. AutoX isn't the only place 'handling' matters, although I bet if both were run dry, you won't find an FS cars close to SS times at national events. And on a road course, the C5Z shines even more.

Get the GTO out of your head NOW.
Too heavy
Need to mini tub just to get any decent size tire out back
Will need front bushing components ASAP
Need a DS
Need anti hop axles
The aftermarket for the GTO is slim compared to the FBody or Vette. GTO's make GREAT DD highway cruisers/bruisers. I owned a 04 M6 and it convinced me of the LS motors. BUT, buying parts for it were overpriced and majority of the GTO community believe the highest price part is the BEST part.
Move on from the GTO if there are plans to heavily modify.
If money is no issue, I still would not go GTO due to the weight lol. You COULD go GTO with a full bushing kit, aluminum DS, GForce1320 9" SRA swap and a GForce1320 mini tub...but it will still be heavy.
You will get into a vette for more money starting out but won't need to mod ASAP.
FBody you can get cheaper and dump money into right off the bat.
You will pay "corvette" prices for stuff
