Default Is factory service/repair manual worth the $?

I did some research here and elsewhere online, and the conclusion I've come to is that the Haynes/Chilton manuals attempt to cover too many engines in a single book to really be comprehensive. I did find this one on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/271503066993, and I was just wondering if anyone on here has used it. Seems too good to be true since a paper copy from HelmInc goes for $200, but the ebay seller has a lot of good feedback.

Thanks in advance for any helpful replies

I have the factory service manual for my car and would buy it again if I had to. There is no way a aftermarket manual will have the same amount of info as the factory manual. With the internet the way it is nowadays there is quite alot of info out there on the 4th gen, but it seems I frequently answer peoples questions by looking in my service manual.
You say they're $200 now, have you checked Helm's web site? mine is still the same price I paid 5 years ago, $105.

Yeah I just checked again to make sure I wasn't mistaken. For some reason mine costs almost double what yours does. That one on ebay claims to be a digital copy of the factory service manual though.

That eBay link is a scam and false advertising. (There are many other adds like this.) The legit offers will have a picture of the three volume set.

Dammit, I was afraid of that. So if I get the three volume set, would I just need the Camaro/Firebird one or is there a specific manual for LS1 models? And what would be a fair offer to make on eBay? I don't want to lowball the seller.

The price seems to depend on the year you want. I paid less than $30 for a 98 set for my brother. I had to pay $90 for my 2002 set.

You are getting all three volumes, right?

BTW - You can go to Helm Inc., who is the publisher of the real deal, and see what they cost hot off the presses.

Yep it's the whole set. And I checked Helm Inc. the other day, they want quadruple what I just paid!

Aww man, wish I'd found that sooner! Oh well, I'm gonna download it anyway. Can't hurt to have both paper and digital copies. Thanks for the link!

I tried downloading the 2000 model year manuals from that site but got an alert concerning a trojan horse virus in one of them.

That's weird, I downloaded all of the '99 files without any problems. Still, I wouldn't ignore an alert like that.

I didn't want to download the unknown software that the website asked me to download in order to download all the 2000 model year files at once. So I manually downloaded the first file and when I went to download a second file, that was when the alert came up from Norton 360.

Does anyone have the 2001 manuals on pdf?

i dont think you are downloading correctly
i downloaded every single file with no issues and running Kaspersky anti virus and no additional software needed

i downloaded mine individually - not all at once but individually - try going that route

My dad used to have all three books when he had the 2002 firebird. IMO, they were worth the money he payed for them. Haynes/Chiltons can not compete with FSM's.

Just loaded these onto my Kindle Paperwhite (the one with an e-ink screen that uses next to no battery). No more lugging a laptop or paper manuals around the garage!
