Default straight pipe or not

This here is my first post. I am a proud owner of 1998 ws6 T/A.
It has a 2002 vette engine inside her, 4 speed auto w/ a speed shift kit.
slp loudmouth catback exhaust. I swapped out the PCM with a 2002 vette PCM, with the governor removed along with some other tunes. I believe I have 3.73 gears in the rear. I have longtube PaceSetter headers. Now that I listed most of my cars uprgrades , here's my question, one I could never get a consistent answer on. Is straight piping a good idea or bad idea? what are the pros and cons? It took me 45 mins to cut and fit the tubes and etc. I removed the resonator (centerpipe) along with the two slp mufflers. I ran it with only pipes, it seemed faster and so freaking awesomely loud! BUT I placed back on the mufflers again for I fear it could potentially harm my car. So someone or better yet, anyone at all with significant knowledge on exhaust systems, please help on this simple yet difficult choice. Straight pipe or not?

the slp loudmouth 1 is nothing but a resonator, the slp loudmouth 2 has a bullet muffler

straight pipes are loud and obnoxious, but in that shitty kind of way...like a redneck truck, but won't hurt anything other than your eardrums and wallet if you get tickets for it

There are lot of other good choices out there for exhaust better than straight pipe.

I know sound is subjective to everyone's opinion of "what sounds good", but exhaust notes need some tone to it.

Take a look at ls1 sounds and youtube, although nothing beats hearing it in person.
One option is to go to local fbody meets and hear what others have and see if it matches your preference.

Well, straight piping did give me a hell of a lot louder car. but it did indeed sound a bit raspy. I want to find a good exhaust set up, both allowing for deep demonic sound, extra hp and also not killing my gas mileage. Also, would making it a true dual make any noticeable difference?

Duals all of the way out the back are usually rather expensive, and I just don't think they look right dumped before the axle on a TA because of the bumper cut outs for exhaust tips. I'd just put a bullet muffler or glass pack in the I pipe, or a small bullet in each tail pipe.

going back to the options mentioned by Fry and Billymgb1000; what's more preferred? A bullet muffler? or the glass pack? I know sound is greater with glass pack, especially with good ol Cherrybombs. but which gives a better power gain. Also power versus $

I was under the impression that a bullet and glass pack style muffler were the same thing

More or less yes. Some have no packing, others use material other than fiberglass so they claim not to be a glass pack. It's probably all just in marketing, some people think of glass packs as something you put on a redneck farm truck.

It's to bad you need so many extra parts for that muffler. LOL
