Default to boost or not to boost

I bought my 98 trans am a while back. It has an Ls6 short block, 6 speed, ford 9" with 410 gears. The guy I bought it from had it set up for boost but never put boost on it. It has head studs, custom blower cam, ported 243 heads, 60 lbs injectors, 2 bar map sensor, bigger fuel pump, and other bolt ons. I really don't have the funds to boost it anytime soon, I was just curious if it would be worth the hassle to swap a different cam in and have it retuned. It's pretty much just a street driven car, take it to the track maybe a few times a year. Just seems like boosting it is gonna run me about 4k, depending on which route I take

Well if it stays DD car and just only sees the track a few times a year just swap a cam. If anything you could go nitrous. Its cheaper than FI and itll give you some thrills at the track. Just a thought.

It's stock bottom end, just has head studs. Just didn't know if swapping the cam would make that much of a difference or if it would even be worth the hassle. Seems like all the power is up top and lacks bottom end. Was thinking maybe a healthy cam and a fast intake,
the current cam specs are 231/235 617/621 on a 115 lsa

There is a guy selling a sts turbo kit locally for $2000 but I seem to find a lot of problems with the rear mount kit when I search for it

Now the next question is turbo or supercharger lol. Turbo seems to be the cheaper route, I'd really like to put a magnacharger on it but I really don't want to cut the cowl to get it to fit. I seen hawks third gen had a turbo kit for about 1900, anyone running their kit?

personally im a turbo guy, i dont like belts and pulleys, i like to be able to control my boost on the go, there are advantages to both and disadvantages, its pretty much personal preference. If you go the s/c route id go a Procharger or vortech. If turbo just piece youreself something, ive done it for super cheap!

I don't have very many fabricating tools, so id like to get a kit. Just love the sound of a turbo, the car is mainly a street cruiser so I didn't know how it would affect realiabilty. Thanks for the input

Yeah, just don't know if the funds will let me do it this year. Was going to have the front end re-painted and have it re-tuned this year. Then save up to boost it next year.

Borg Warner, Garret, Master Power, Precision, Turbonetics, VS Racing <---- Pretty much the top brands for turbos on LS engines. Even eBay GT45 knockoffs have been proven to throw out 600+ hp on your average 5.3, I think you can get one for like $300 right now. In the end, you get what you pay for, and you need to make sure you chose the RIGHT turbo for your application. well worth it in the end

just watch this video. stock bottom end 5.3 with an eBay GT45
