Default 5.3 to ls1 swap

I have the opportunity to buy a ls1 short block for 100 buck but it needs bored or resleeveing the guy was praying and the piston broke the rod and the rest of the engine are fine. I am thinking of getting it and putting it in my 2004 Silverado it has the 5.3 in it will it be worth the time and money to do the swap for the extra power and I also have a set of 799 heads to put on when I do it

It will be a lot of time and money by the time it's all said and done. Just put a better cam and headers in the 5.3 or buy a running LS1 (I'd get a 6.0, not like the weight matters in your application).
You're welcome.

At least nobody told you go to www.performancetrucks.net since it's the sister site for truck stuff.

But swapping your 5.3 to a LS1 will not net any real gains. The LS1 only makes 20-30 more hp in stock form than a 5.3. Plus it being a core LS1 that you're looking at that will need machine work and to be built, you could spend that money on your 5.3 and be much happier with long tubes, a cam and a tune. Not to mention happier pockets.

Not to mention you could just bore the 5.3 out to a 5.7 anyway. So there really is not real advantage of buying the ls1.

If you're wanting to go bigger build a 383 out of your 5.3. By the time you sleeved the ls1 and bought a new rotating assembly you would have spent more money than just stroking the 5.3.
