Default LM7 167k miles - too much?

Hi,

Is 167.000 miles too much on an engine to do a swap with it without rebuilding?
I'm looking for a budget build for my 72 Monte Carlo (It a week-end car).
Will the engine still be reliable with a mild cam swap and new valve springs ?

Thanks for your answers

You are going to get mixed answers on here I bet but if it were me I would do the cam and spring swap and never look back. Do a compression test on it while its out but I bet its good. I have seen so many of these engines going 300,000 miles and still running great. My 07 silverdao is closing in on 140k and is good as new.

It all depends on how the motor was treated but id say your good. Those 5.3's are tough.
